Haha yeah I figured that'd ruffle some feathers, but I just had to give the band a break from closing with one of the hits. I almost left The Middle off the setlist altogether, even though I love that song. But obviously that'd be defeating the purpose of including the biggest hits. Plus I think that particular cover would be fun enough that even people in the crowed who'd never heard of it would still have a blast. Also, there's potential to stretch it out into a 10 minute rock fest with interludes from Jimmy songs. But, if gun to my head I had to swap it out, I'd have it switch places with 23.
Big Casino is a great opener. Also, got my setlist down to 26 songs for an hour and 50 minutes. This is painful. My process at this point is to put together the setlist with a good chunk of obvious cuts and see what room there is for everything else.
Have fun cutting those last 4 homie. It's the hardest part once yet get it down to a manageable number and then have to make the last few cuts.
Also, going to have a very difficult time discerning this thread from the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt thread on a quick glance haha
This band is nearly flawless, so there's always going to be songs that it hurts to cut, but I think this list is fantastic. I would personally cut "Littlething" in favor of "Polaris," but that's because the latter is arguably my favorite JEW song.
Great setlist! This is a cool feature. Hope to see some other bands get this treatment in the future as well. The only songs I was surprised were omitted were "Pain" and "My Best Theory," so it was cool to read your thoughts and see that those were both on the cusp of being included. I would have had to find a spot for "Always Be" as well, but that's just personal preference. Thanks for putting this together!
Great Set, especially as the band generated so much great songs. Thanks for putting Dizzy on it, always had the feeling the song never got the attention it desserved. Only a little bit surprised not to see Blister.
This is tough, there's so many great songs... Futures Table For Glasses Bleed American Always Be Stop Sweetness Apprecaition Kill Dizzy Ten If You Don't, Don't My Best Theory For Me This Is Heaven Cautioners Closer Polaris Book Of Love Lucky Denver Mint A Praise Chorus Goodbye Sky Harbor Encore Big Casino Hear You Me The Middle
I did it, 20 song for one hours and 20 minutes. This was really difficult but a lot of fun to put together. Hope you all like it. You can hear thousands of hearts break if you listen closely to the transition from Carry You to Hear You Me. 1. Big Casino 2. Bleed American 3. My Best Theory 4. Lucky Denver Mint 5. Your New Aesthetic 6. I Will Steal You Back 7. Work 8. Carry You 9. Hear You Me 10. Kill 11. Movielike 12. Damage 13. Pain 14. Dizzy 15. Just Watch The Fireworks 16. Futures 17. A Praise Chorus 18. 23 Encore: 19. Sweetness 20. The Middle
Our lists are v similar. If I was going to make a Mix CD version the first to go would be Disintegration and then maybe another one of the longer ones to get me closer to the numbers, then I would fiddle around with different song picks to get under 80 minutes.
Yeah when I looked over yours you included a lot of songs I would have also included. It was really difficult cutting The World You Love from mine. I ran into the same issue where I didn't want it to be too Futures-heavy, which, to a lesser extent, is also why I cut Disintegration and Closer. I had to cut For Me This I s Heaven in order to include Just Watch The Fireworks. I really like that I placed it behind Dizzy. In my mind I see the band letting the closing riff to Dizzy loop over and over and gradually fade out until there's nothing but silence until Jim sings "HERE, YOU CAN BE ANYTHING." The crowd would go nuts, especially if they had a violin player on stage too in order to play that subtle intro before Jim starts singing.
Clarity and Futures are my top two favorite JEW records. But, there is something about Invented that i just love. I can't put my finger on what it is. But I do know that Invented and Mixtape are great songs. And Littlethings, such a god damn good song.
Great list, I would pay anything to see that show! I would like to see "higher devotion" and "my best theory" on there, but understand why they didn't make the final cut.
As it happens, my favorite number is 22, and it makes for sweet set-list lengths. The JEW playlist on my phone that I've listened to more times than I can count is this: 23 Bleed American Big Casino Pain Electable (Give It Up) I Will Steal You Back Higher Devotion A Praise Chorus Hear You Me Chase This Light Firefight How'd You Have Me Futures Coffee and Cigarettes Kill My Best Theory Let It Happen Work Closer For Me This is Heaven Dizzy Sweetness
Thanks friend. Since they signal boosted it on twitter, I've been hearing from a few Static fans who are not happy with me.
