Just started the first episode of the HBO docuseries on the 1989 Austin frozen yogurt shop murders. Have always heard about this case, but don't know too many details about it. Locked in for this one.
Researching this story now. I'll spoiler tag for anybody who wants go into the doc cold In 2023 in Ocala, Florida a racist Karen develops a pattern of harassing the kids in the neighborhood. It comes to a boiling point when she calls throws something at a child for leaving stuff in her yard. This prompts the mother of the child to angerly knock on her door to confront her. The Karen proceeds to shoot a gun through her locked door killing the mother. She tried to claim Stand Your Ground (Florida), but it doesn't work. She was convicted and is serving 25 year sentence for Manslaughter.
The Perfect Neighbor was the best true crime doc I have seen in a decade at least. Revolutionary for the genre.
I admittedly laughed when the lady fell for the old "would you like to write a letter to the victim's kids?" cop trick during interrogation. lol I learned about that shit from The Wire.
One of the creepiest parts of The Perfect Neighbor was when the deputy knocks at her door at night and she screams "ONE MINUTE!!!!" so aggressively the cop was even taken aback. Then she changed her tune as soon as she saw it was a cop. That was the one slight glimpse we the viewer saw how that lady actually is when cops aren't around.
This is wild. The debate to release her or keep her in custody had been going on for months and she was just released a few weeks ago. Slender Man stabbing attacker missing, cuts off GPS monitor
There is a new true crime doc on Hulu/Disney+ about the Idaho Scream Murder. I saw another doc on that case over a decade ago and it was one of the most disturbing cases I ever heard about. Out of the tons of true crime I have seen this one has stuck with me. In 2006 two Idaho teens become obsessed recreating the Scream movies and stab their female acquaintance to death while wearing scary Halloween masks and they filmed the whole thing.
Is this the one where they were all hanging out the the two guys said they were going to the movies but really like hid in the garage or something
Fuckin Idaho. I’m currently OBSESSED with the U of I murders from a couple of years ago so I could use something to take my mind off that..lol
That post lead me down a reddit rabbit hole to Dr. Gloves, which you should absolutely not read about if you want to have a good rest of your day.
Just popping in to recommend this book (I just finished the audiobook) Murderland by Caroline Fraser: 9780593657225 | PenguinRandomHouse.com: Books
Dr. Gloves put me in such a feel bad mood that it made me dive back in to Eye of the Chickenhawk. What the fuck, man
2 young girls found dead in suitcases in Cleveland, police say These bodies were found right around the corner from my childhood home. No suspects. Messed up.
I feel like I have watched enough true crime police interrogation videos on YouTube where I noticed like sooo many people will called into the police station with "hey we think you have info on a crime. Come on down we just wanna ask you a few questions to help us out", then 2 minutes in they get read their rights and just continue on. Or sometimes they think they're slick and keep going to try to probe the cops for more info while continuing talking. Bro if cops call me into the station then I got read my rights I am asking for a lawyer and shutting the fuck up immediately before I even know what it's about
