TIL During WW2 when the US Army approached the foremost American expert on mining in central Africa about obtaining a supply of Uranium ore from the Congo, he revealed there was no need because he already had it. TIL: There was a Russian game show in the late 90’s named Perehvat (or “The Interception”) where contestants would have to steal a car and attempt to evade police for a specific time. If they were successful, they’d win the vehicle. The show was produced as an attempt to discourage carjacking, which had become rampant and to build support for the police force. However, this completely backfired when viewers were openly rooting for the carjackers each episode. It was cancelled after one season. Another crazy bit is that the show was filmed on the actual streets of Moscow, as opposed to a contained set.
