well yeah, was laying it on thick early in the season with all of the "Do YoU bElIeVe In GoD?" dialogue lol
The Dark Forest and Death’s End completely changed the way I look at the night sky. Love both of them.
I started re-reading (well listening I guess, doing the audiobook this time around), to the first book. I might start this or give the Tencent version another try after that. I started the Tencent show when it first came out but I fell off pretty quickly. The number of episodes was a little too daunting at the time.
episodes 3 and 4 are pretty good and 5 is incredible but it cannot be overstated how bad of casting the part of augie is
‘3 Body Problem’ Renewed for Additional Episodes to Conclude the Netflix Series '3 Body Problem' Renewed for Season 2 by Netflix
There’s no way the game of thrones bros will properly do Deaths End but I hope to be proven wrong. But the dark forest stuff should be good.
They at least have a full road map to work with and they aren’t the only ones involved here so could still end up okay. I’ll still haven’t watched any of this though lol
Its been a while for me to go from incredibly intrigued to borderline hatred yet here we are. I just finished ep6 and I may not finish it. This show is all over the place! So many characters! Most of them are either not fleshed out, useless, or have no arc. No clear focus and scenarios that were important in episode 2, feel completely meaningless now. The first few episodes were very intriguing. Genuinely confusing, interesting, and I loved tying in the Chinese cultural revolution, but now it's just a slog "aliens are coming" show. I don't care about this character with cancer and his crush on one of the main girls. I'm sure I'm not crazy to say that I bet the books are way way better
Netflix streamlines the story to the point of making the characters boring and not really honoring the characters from the book. The books also do not have this cohesive unit that you’re with for the entire story. I get having to make it palatable for mass audiences. I recommend reading the books or watching the Chinese version if you want a truer adaptation. that said season 2 should have some great moments that I hope they pull off.
I’d say the books are better but still suffer from similar issues. I would have hoped that the show could have made improvements on the books, because it should have been easy to do, but they just made things worse than the books. Hoping for a better interpretation down the road
I disagree with that. Da shi might be the best character in the whole story. Ye is actually interesting. And I liked maio but I understand that is a minority opinion.
How did this show get decent/good reviews? I don't get it. I feel like I just watched something that was written and made by like 10 different people and someone edited it together. These last 3 episodes are such a drag. I can't believe this is the same show that had one of our 50 main characters participate in this mind-bending "virtual reality/alien game" for a few episodes. The same show that started with the Chinese cultural revolution. The same show that had some "evil?" rich man reading child books to aliens, just to be butchered along with hundreds of children because the government wanted a file. The same show that had a character have some freaky countdown appear in her vision, with dozens of scientists dying in the process. Soooooooo much random shit happening and then we slam the breaks and say "no! This is now a show about how society deals with stopping aliens" I hate this
In the book, Da Shi and Ye are good characters. Maio was never that interesting, he just seemed like a vessel for other characters to give exposition to. I’ve enjoyed him a little more the second read through though.
I've been watching this with my housemate and episode five had some pretty wild payoffs, the boat scene was super fucked up and then the ending of the episode just doubles down lmao I don't like Auggie as a character but everyone else is pretty good so far. Jin and Clarence are great. I had no idea Benedict Wong was British until I started watching this
this show was pretty good, definitely agree that the first 5 episodes are stronger than the last 3. it's pretty funny how Saul does almost nothing all season then gets promoted to Main Character in the last episode lol I'd watch another season for sure. the sci-fi concepts and use of thought problems in this is so cool
Finally reading through these, tore through the first book over the weekend and finished it today. Can’t wait to dive into the 2nd, which I know almost nothing about.
Yeah the second is much better than the first. The actual prose leaves a bit to be desired but the concepts are sick
