I'm watching this and just finished episode 7. The main stupid thing that bugs me is how have the San-Ti been speaking to Mike Evans for 40 plus years and neither has ever figured out that the San-Ti don't understand lies, stories, metaphors, or jokes? I mean wtf, I feel like that would get figured out in the first conversation. Other than that, I'm really liking this show. The plot and story are great and not at the expense of the real heart to the show - the characters. They're engaging, well acted, and well written.
Finished it. It was better than I thought it would be but now I just want to re read the book. Just need to get it back from my brother now.
How have the San-Ti figured out how to have instantaneous communication with Earth, from hundreds of light years away, yet their spacecrafts will take several hundred years to reach Earth? If you can do the former, that should mean you can do the same with the latter
The sophon they sent to earth is quantum entangled with the one on their planet, which is how they can do faster than light communication. And since the sophon is the size of a single proton, it was much easier to accelerate it to near light speed to actually get it to earth than it would be a full fleet of ships. I guess they could fold up all the ships though. I feel like the book addresses this, but I can't exactly remember how.
Just finished this and really enjoyed it. I was kind of expecting a more dramatic climax for the last episode but I think I liked it how it ended.
thought this was very hit or miss, ultimately landing on disappointing. In better hands this material would have been elevated to something special imo, but it just plods along without any strong identity. A lot of the dialogue was eye-roll inducing
Rewatching the Chinese version. The universe flicker is done so much better than in the Netflix version. It’s the first major scene that jumps out as just being so substantially better in every way. You can feel the length of the Chinese version though. Definitely a happy medium somewhere between Netflix’s 8 and the 30 of the Chinese version lol.
Can't put my finger on why I can't fully buy into this show... Feels like source material for a show of the caliber of Shogun that was dumbed down and adapted into the average Netflix production.
To be honest, the book and it's plot/characters aren't much better than the show, but I agree it should have been much more of the quality of Shogun than...what we got
Haven’t read the book since 2020 but it’s absolutely better than the show. Just bought it again to re read it.
The first book is the worst of the three but it’s still good. The dark forest is one of my favorite books.
didn’t like the acting or writing for most of the characters especially Auggie’s arc. sold me on the book though
