I wish the theming for queue was better for the mummy ride because like everything about the ride rules but the same video playing and nothing to look at sucks.
there's things i love about both. I hate that florida's stretching room doesn't drop, but the swirling audio is great. The blinking wallpaper and the M.C. Escher staircase scene rules so hard. But I love the smell of DLR Mansion, the architecture, and the hatbox ghost. Plus our OG hitchhiking ghosts.
I’ve been waiting so long to go on the Harry Potter ride and it didn’t disappoint at all. What a ride.
So I’m a total theme park nerd, but haven’t actually had the opportunity to go to many different parks just yet, but I thought we could have a little discussion here about rides and coasters. What are everyone’s top 5 rides and top 5 coasters they’ve been on, and where are they? I really enjoy watching ride videos on YouTube in my free time, so I’d love to check out some of people’s favorites.
Off the top of my head, Millennium Force, Cedar Point Top Thrill Dragster, Cedar Point (I haven't rode Kingda Ka) Intimidator 305, Kings Dominion Verbolten, Busch Gardens The Beast, Kings Island
Rides: Haunted mansion - ALL Disney parks Sinbad’s storybook journey - Tokyo Disney sea Journey to the center of the earth - Tokyo Disney sea Pirates of the Caribbean - DLR Harry Potter and the forbidden journey - Universal coasters: Crushes coaster - WDS Paris Xcelerator - knotts Goliath - six flags magic mountain Expedition Everest - animal kingdom Desperado - primm, NV stateline
I think everyone needs to go to Cedar Point, at least once. Where do you live? I'm on east coast so I've been to theme parts in Ohio, Jersey, VA, Penn, MD, Georgia, Florida, and I think that's it.
As far as my top 5 coasters I’ve been on go: - Montu (Busch Gardens Tampa) - Aerosmith Rock ‘n Roller Coaster (Disney’s Hollywood Studios) - Manta (SeaWorld Orlando) - Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit (Universal Studios Florida) - Revenge of the Mummy (Universal Studios Florida) Honorable mentions to Kumba & SheiKra (Busch Gardens Tampa), Vortex & Flight Deck (Canada’s Wonderland), and The Incredible Hulk (Islands of Adventure) All-time favorite non-coaster rides are Forbidden Journey and Spider-Man at Islands of Adventure, and Haunted Mansion at Disney World.
I live in Toronto. I want to go to all these places like Cedar Point that aren’t too too far away, but our exchange rate on the dollar is so shitty it’s difficult getting others to come with.
hollywood. I'lll write a little mini review on my trip yesterday since I haven't been there in a good 3 years.
It's sad that I haven't been to a lot of parks other than Disney/Universal. I watch ride throughs of other parks all the time though. I need to convince a friend to go on a roller coaster road trip with me since my girlfriend isn't a big coaster fan.
Living in Orlando, I haven't been to any amusement parks either. I'm not huge on roller coasters but I still want to hit a Six Flags somewhere or Knott's Berry in California.
It's in the name, theme parks (Disney, Universal, etc.) are all themed. Toy Story, Harry Potter, Marvel, Star Wars, Avatar, Kong, etc. All themed to a movie or IP. They usually have line queue's that are immersive (and also themed). They focus more on selling you a story or feeling. Amusement parks, like Six Flags, Paramount, etc. are mostly generically named rides, with no theme. Their focus is more on thrill coasters and rides vs. a theme.
Ahhh, okay. That makes total sense, thanks for the explanation. Canada's Wonderland is my home park. I supposed you'd call it an amusement park nowadays, since there's no real cohesive theme, and it's just a bunch of scattered rides and attractions. But when Paramount used to own it, a number of the rides were named after movie franchises (Tomb Raider, The Italian Job, Top Gun, etc.) and the areas surrounding them loosely themed to the properties. Would it have been considered more of a theme park then?
As I've been getting older my stomach has had a lower and lower tolerance for coasters. My last trip to Six Flags Great America a couple months ago ended with me almost puking before 2pm. I'm so angry, roller coasters used to be my favorite thing in the world when I was growing up. I might try Dramamine or something and give it one more shot. Otherwise it's Disney for me (which isn't a bad thing of course).
