So stoked on this. Went to a new shop and girl who did a flash piece on my brother and she was so nice and affordable and accommodating. Love the piece. Sidenote, this is the first time I've had an artist recommend not using A&D or anything vaseline-based. Just washing and unscented lotion.
Anyone know of any lotions with spf or less chemically sunscreens thatd be good for a fresh tattoo? Im about to get another, but a week after ill be somewhere warm (not the beach or anything crazy), but itll still be too hot to cover it, and also im debating if pants rubbing it a little (leg tattoo) or a little sun will be worse. I heal pretty quickly, so will a week be enough time to have it be healed enough to handle sun screen without adverse affects? Its back of the leg so sun shouldnt reach it too much but still want to take care of it.
I personally don't know of any products that could help you here. If you were a month out from getting tattooed I'd say you'd be good to go with something like Neutrogena Ultrasheer between 50-70 SPF but for something that fresh I'd strongly suggest to do your very best to keep it out of the sun as much as possible. Looser fabrics are best to avoid rubbing, this could be tougher to do with a leg piece depending on what pants you plan to wear. As quickly as you may heal, your epidermis is definitely not going to be fully healed in a single week and will be extra sensitive to anything you put on that area as well as extra sensitive to sunlight. Any sunblock you apply to that area could seep into your dermis layers containing the ink and react in an unfavorable way (pigmentation changes or ink fading for example). I would also suggest straight up asking your artist when you go in to get the piece.
Im asking here (and googling) because my artist implied that after a week, for a black and gray lighter piece without crazy heavy color saturation, itd be fine for sunscreen. Hes tattooed me before so i trust his talent, but ill trust my gut and research on this one and plan on clothing that will keep it out of the sun (if needed). Im just going to be doing a lot of walking in 90+ degree weather, going to a baseball game, sitting at bar patios etc. and normally id wear shorts the whole time. Depending on sun direction its not the most direct spot so i may be overthinking it. Thanks.
I’m going to be continuing my tattoo in every state I visit. I’ve been to Nashville six or seven times but never been tattooed there. Any recs for a dope shop where I can book something? So far I’ve been recommended Adventure Tattoo. I’m going in November.
It’s the only southwestern state I haven’t been to sadly. I’ve got California and Texas so far, outside of NYC where I live.
Adventure is great, they're super solid artists all around, but I personally avoid places that are always advertising walk ins. In saying that, I do really like Nathan Rohrbacher there. Here's a quick and dirty list, I'd recommend appointments for all these places Black 13 (Nathan Fisher and Ryan Thomas have both done traditional work on me). Kustom Thrills Riverside (the owner Adam has done my last three pieces) Safehouse (Ian does incredible B & W work) Victory on Charlotte (Mia the owner used to be married to Anthony from Bayside) Dead Ahead (Ryan does some of the brightest tattoos I've ever seen)
Thank you so much! I’m gonna find all these people on instagram and see which artist I like best. Appreciate you.
here's my new piece - it's the Samurai band logo from cyberpunk 2077 (which is just Refused music under a new name). Photographed lighter than it actually looks but this is probably what it'll look like once it heals. The same artist did this 'steam punk couch' that I already posted already, but it had some lines that didn't quite connect and we redid some shading on the couch, and I'm even happier with it now, despite not even being unhappy with begin with.
I made my first appointment in probably 5 years today. I've got a bunch of little spots between existing work I've been meaning to finally fill in, and I guess there's no time like the present. Probably the longest gap since I started getting tattooed years ago.
My sister is going for her next tattoo in two weeks and now I'm getting that itch to just book with her and show up because why not lol
Speaking of sleeve fillers, these are match(ing) tattoo's my wife and I got at a flash event which is weird, as it's one of my more visible tattoo's and it's a design that has nothing meaningful to me, but I like it. I had a day or 2 where I was like bahhh what did I do? but now it's just giving me the itch to build around with more tattoo's of color and that style. It's back of the arm/elbow for location (cropped pics). Maybe one day I'll regret having the devil on me but for now, I don't care.
