what are some essential albums of this genre for someone relatively new to it? I've been digging into Japanese music the last few months and I've really enjoyed the few 80's synthwave and darkwave-type stuff I've heard, but still largely unfamiliar. I like Chromatics, Tycho, Tangerine Dream... (idk if you'd call those artists synthwave but yeah)
I’d say a landmark album for the newer wave of this music is FM-84’s “Atlas” The Midnight is probably the biggest act in the genre, and imo their best album is “Monsters”
yeah, I only recently got turned on to Atlas by this thread and I was bummed there wasn't much else, but then I saw a new single & 7-song album on Amazon music I think from yesterday
i'm listening to samples now. i think this might be fake. it sounds very basic in composition, and i think he'd make a bigger announcement about his next album rather than just shadow drop it on a few streaming services
I have no idea if these are legit or not - I was just searching for the Maverick (Atlas b-sides) on Amazon Music and these came up
Yeah I’d say fake. But we are LONG overdue for new FM-84; last time he alluded to making new music was back in August
not that I trust Amazon or anything, but I think this is the first time I've come across fake music that was labeled as a different artist on Amazon Music... is this a thing that happens a lot??
