Easily top 3 most anticipated films of 2026

 

Oh man does this mean 3 will be The Super Mario Odyssey Movie?

 

Going from Galaxy to Odyssey would seem like a step down in terms of scale tbh. I think the only way they could top Galaxy is if the 3rd film was a crossover with other Nintendo characters

If only Nintendo had a franchise they could tie that into.

The question is which franchise would they choose. Pokemon film rights are with WB. Zelda films rights are with Sony. Mario already had a film with DK.

For the Zelda film Sony is distributing and co-financing it with Nintendo so maybe they don’t have the rights. Hopefully Nintendo didn’t pull a Marvel/Spider-Man situation.

For Pokemon the film rights were purchased by legendary or WB so that will be trickier

 

Everything I'm looking at indicates it's all just distribution rights to particular films. Pretty sure Nintendo wouldn't be dumb enough to hand out the rights wholesale to a particular company.

Legendary stills owns the rights so Nintendo
would have to borrow them similar to Marvel/Spider-Man. I’m assuming they only sold the rights for Pokemon because they weren’t planning to start their own film division in 2016

 

Legendary got the rights to make a movie. I can find nowhere where it says they completely locked down film rights, and in worst case it would only be live-action rights because animated films have been made since. I stand by my conclusion that The Pokémon Company can absolutely allow Nintendo to include Pokémon without Legendary's involvement.

 

You could be right. There hasn’t been much info on the legendary/pokemon stuff since detective Pikachu.

 

A director was hired for Detective Pikachu 2 in 2023, but there has been no news since.

The bidding rights from 2016 specified “live-action,” and Netflix has produced numerous shows since then, so I think an animated film is still possible.

I’d rather see franchises that haven’t yet been given the same attention. Star Fox, Kirby, etc

 

Hear me out on this...what if in the end credits of Galaxy they introduce Starfox?

 

“Mario, I’m here to recruit you to help me save the Lylat system… and avenge my father.”

 

“Mario, I’m here to teach you how to do a barrel roll.”

 

Roll. Barrel roles are Donkey Kong Country.

 

Technically if they're in space they could introduce F-Zero too

 

And while they're in space, a meteor could fall from the sky and crash into an island somewhere in the South Pacific...
