I googled “do a barrel roll” to try and find out if that old meme was from the game that character is from. And when the results loaded, the screen looped around.

These companies are evil, but at least they still have little gags about ancient memes?

Anyways. I think it is from that game. So I’m sure they’ll have someone say that in this movie, even though much of the theater will be kids born after that meme (idk, maybe it’s still a thing on Smash Bros or something).

 

Super Mario Galaxy Movie Adds Fox McCloud in Smash Bros Crossover

Variety seems to be hinting at a smash bros film. I still don't see how that film could be less than 10 years away though. They have to introduce so many more characters. Even if, theoretically, the smash bros film contains only the N64 roster. They still need Samus, Kirby, Captain Falcon, and Ness. Potentially Link if they don't want to use the live action film version.

 

I laughed way harder at this than I should have.
