Don't look into what the creator of Earthworm Jim is like. It'll bum you out.

Oh I know he's a POS, but I don't hold that against Jim.

We brought my 9 year old son and 2 of his friends to see this yesterday afternoon. They had a blast and that's what I was hoping for. My opinion is I like the first one better, but this was enjoyable.

Based on what everyone was saying here I thought this was gonna be an absolute mess and instead it was just fine. A very basic/rehashed plot that isn’t anything new to me but my 6 year old had fun watching it and that was what I was in it for.

To make it more adult friendly aka better, they needed to slow down and do less and explore the Peach/Rosalina relationship more. But otherwise it was fine. first one was better imo

I saw this and it wasn’t particularly good, but idk if I felt it was bad enough to warrant much of the last 10 pages. It’s not that I don’t think kids deserve better - I hate the it’s a kids movie, it’s not that deep argument - but I’m just not sure the box office success of a sloppy Mario movie bodes poorly for much more than the next Mario movie.

As far as what made it bad, I’m not really sure why a substantive story is too high a bar, as visually it’s not a lazy series to this point at all. I don’t love Illumination’s visual style, but there was a ton of care and attention to detail in the first one and this wasn’t far behind in that regard.

Anyways, as someone who needed at least 2 mid movies to lose the novelty of these things existing it was a fun enough reason to get out of the house in the middle of the week. Star Fox bit was very cool, a couple of the fight set pieces looked great, I enjoyed the Mario 2 love. Obv not a good movie, but adequate.

fwiw I did think the first was a good bit better overall. Bit tighter plot, more coherent character motivation, and a better use of Leo pointing meme level Nintendo references as world building than here where the fan service felt more disconnected.

My two kids (5 and 3) just absolutely loved this. I had fun. All I can ask for honestly.

My brother lost a bet on this film that it would get above a 47% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Just saw this with the kiddo, honestly I think it was a lot more fun than the first, so many great cameos and references! Also once again in aw of the animation.

My kids laughed. I alternated between dozing off and pointing and saying “I know that character”. Casino scene seems like it was based off Finn’s side quest in Force Awakens. Haha.

Felt like Peach being bad ass in the first one was what this was lacking. Something that was somewhat unexpected.

The power ups during the big fight were a good gag.

4/10. Hope the next one is just a giant dump of every character ever.

My kid hated this and tried to murder me in my sleep for taking her to it. I blame those in this thread that said it wasn’t that bad.

Did she want to go to it though? That part's important.

One of the things I will never forget is the release of the Pokémon movie when I was in fifth or sixth grade. I was excited and every kid was excited. The theater was full on a Saturday morning. Near the end I remember looking at my mother and just seeing nothing in her eyes. It really made me understand just how painful and mind-numbing those movies must have been for her. I think that was the last kid movie she took us too. For Attack of the Clones she went and saw something else while we went to it.

I loved The Phantom Menace when I was 11 and saw it three times in theaters, but by 14 I wanted to walk out of Attack of the Clones.

Ironically I didn’t like Attack of the Clones as a kid but now it’s not that bad. I actually like it more than Return of the Jedi
