I gotta say this movie sucked but I don't think there was anything egregiously bad about it to have a big rally cry against it or anything. It was as bad as the first one. Never in a million years would I choose to pay money to see either of them, or even to put either of them on when my son was not in the room, so idk if I'd find it bad enough to walk out of.

The larger conversation about media being created based off of IP solely for the purpose of selling toys matters, though.

Because it is easier to get a film greenlit if you follow the trends. It is common sense.

    ?????

because it encourages more slop like this to be made that's going to be commercially successful that will take up real estate in movie theaters over other films.

    truly not difficult lol

Sorry, just saying it's bad if mega corporations are under the impression they don't have to make an effort

They can still make a great movies as they always have been. Bad kid movies have always made money. Mario Galaxy is not something new in that category.

did you know that the number of movies getting wide releases in theaters has been decreasing for several years

This isn't something ground breaking lol it's not new that a bad kid movie is making bank. You're acting like Mario Galaxy is the turning point to where all future movies will be bad simply because it made money.

I feel condescending to explain this, but film studios, just like any other business, follow trends. The Mario movies are huge successes despite terrible reviews, so they are going to make more and more films like that until they start to bomb. Why make a WALL-E or Iron Giant when you can buy a new yacht by making a Fortnite movie?

Objectively how funny would it be though if in film study classes there needed to be a Mario Galaxy "this was the turning point" chapter

What I'm saying is that movies like these have always been around even with WALL-E and the Iron Giant. I don't see studios changing their approach to kid films and dumbing them all down because of the success of Mario. They know their IPs don't hold the brand awareness of Mario. Releasing a bad film =/= making Mario bank. I'm sure people running studios should at least be aware of that as there are still great kid films released yearly.

You've had the Minions films which are just walking brain rot making bank for over a decade, but we still get classics from Pixar and Dreamworks despite that.

If a studio wants to aim to make a great film they will continue to do so, no matter what money Mario pulls in because they know it's just Mario (and minions).

True in the sense that it exists for the same reason as Charlie Kirk
