Seeing a grown man get mad enough at Super Mario 2 to walk out of the movie in disgust is absolutely funnier than anything in this, that's for sure.

Do you have the card that lets you see movies for free? Why did you see this? I don't mean to be patronizing but I really don't know why anyone would see this if they didn't have children that were interested.

I paid to see a different movie so there would be no blood on my hands. We were at CityWalk, which is this big open area and it was 800 degrees out so we decided to hide from the Sun for two hours.

What movie did you pay for? Why didn't you just see that again?

An animated film can be a hit with kids and also crafted with care. KPop Demon Hunters was literally just last year (and kids are still into it).

Though I agree that an adult deciding to see this on their own and then walking out is quite funny.

You should’ve seen Forbidden Fruits instead.

I paid to see Project Hail Mary, but that is an hour longer and we didn't have that much time. I saw Project Hail Mary two days later.

Also, one cannot completely divorce themselves from popular culture. Every once in a while I will see something like Happy Gilmore 2 or Mario 2 to be reminded of just how bad things can be.

My point is what others have said. Kids have always enjoyed key jangling films and the narrative that kids need better films is silly to me. They do get good films every year. They can balance out good films from Pixar/Dreamworks with bad films like Mario Galaxy. Kids like both.

The local theaters had Mario starting every twenty minutes or so. Every dollar that goes to Mario 2 discourages filmmakers from trying to make good films.

It’s so funny to say there are other good films so why try to make this one good?

I, too, consume both good movies and… differently-“good” movies (shoutout to all the The Bride! fans out there).

I dont think anyone here is saying this. Its just silly to get even a little bit upset about this movie being bad. Its a mario movie.

No point in saying that kids deserve to have better movies because kids have better movies. Who cares that this ones bad, move on.

That is such a strange attitude. Movies are pop art; the success of the Mario movies leads to more movies like it. There is only so much theater space and people only go to theaters so often.

Nintendo and Illumination made a statement with this film. They think you and your children are stupid and deserve this kind of stuff. Why should they be proven right?

What kind of logic is that? Why would any filmmaker be discouraged that a poorly received animated film is making money?

It's funny to read things like this and then read things like what Miyamoto said in that interview I posted and I can't help but wonder if part of the disconnect is just completely different POVs on what makes an enjoyable experience.

Like I have a hard time thinking Miyamoto doesn't give a shit, but having different takes on what to give a shit about, that makes sense.

why would Miyamoto publicly say anything negative about this movie
