I think I made it clear that I don't believe "family friendly" and "geared toward children" are entirely the same thing, so I'm not real sure why we're still arguing about this.
Yeah I know. I was using Star Wars as an example that even if the creator intended it for children that doesn’t mean that’s who the general audience will be.
Like the overall point I made is that adult children are being mad about something that wasn’t made for them, it’s for kids and families. The cast fits the current trend of cramming as many stars as you can into a voice cast. Plus, you got people being like “BUT WHAT ABOUT THE ADULTS?!” when that was NEVER gonna be a primary focus for this, ever. Like sorry you grew up and now you’re in your 30’s and 40’s balding with no kids, you’re not the main focus so get over it.
I just want to be sure... who is this directed at? Just, people in general or people in this thread or someone specific or what? It's hard to tell sometimes if someone actually has a problem with something someone said in the thread or if they're just screaming into the void at the general population.
The latter on this one, I got no honest beef with you or anyone else in here about this. Plus, I have extreme contempt for the gaming fan community and their persistent inability to happy with anything as a whole so that definitely factors into it.
Oh, I totally get that. Every time I read the comments on articles on sites like NintendoLife or Anime News Network or scans_daily, all I usually end up doing is wondering why I keep doing this to myself. Everyone hates everything, nothing is enjoyable, and your favorite holiday is cancelled.
Using the “they’re just movies for kids” line is bullshit tbh. Even if a movie is mainly targeted at kids, kids entertainment should be held to a standard of quality too. And considering that the first generation to grow up with Mario is currently in their 40s and 50s, it’s not unreasonable to want a Mario film that is geared toward all ages, like Wreck-It Ralph (great example @Penlab), rather than something just shat out into cinemas with no regard for the fact that, yeah, adults like Mario too. Nintendo makes games for all ages, not just “kids games”. It’s fair to want the movie to reflect that too. That said, unfortunately this was DOA the moment they announced Illumination was making it. But the fact remains that it’s not unreasonable for adults to want this to be good.
I like the despicable me films but looking at their film list I didn't realize they only have like three properties lol
Metroid and Zelda seem like the best route to go when it comes to adapting Nintendo franchises into films.
Metroid and Zelda are both built around nearly-silent protagonists (as is Mario). You're never going to make a movie about a character like that and satisfy fans because everyone has their own idea of what those characters' personalities are actually like. It's why the fan backlash to Metroid: Other M on Wii was so palpable, Nintendo gave Samus dialogue and a personality for the first time and most people hated it. I think the Last of Us series on HBO has the best chance of anything we've seen thus far to be a good video game adaptation, personally. Sucks it's being written by anti-union pos.
This move makes sense. Universal & Illumination can't only make Minions movies forever. Nintendo is a new gold mine for them
Metroid would be cool, Zelda imo would be tricker. Like which game would they adapt? OoT would probably be the easiest.
A Zelda film, imo, would have to be a new story. Using one of the games would be a disaster waiting to happen. Even if the film is good, fans would tear it apart for leaving something out.
