My hype for this is going through the roof after that video. A 70s war film. Say less.

that does sound enticing but i’m kind of skeptical of a bit of director bullshit in comic hype videos. still burned from the russos comparing civil war to the parallax view lol

Feel like the Russos have been the worst offenders when in comes to ambitious, misplaced comparisons to other films, lol.

I don't expect this to actually feel like a 70s war film, considering it's a James Gunn comic book film with people in delightfully corny costumes. But, I could see there being some solid action sequences sprinkled through. Hopefully the plot's more straightforward than that last Enchantress mess, lol.

TBF you seem to be in the minority in not liking GOTG2, so probably not that insane haha

i am definitely not in the minority lol

it has one of the lowest metacritic scores outside of phase 1 and you are the first person i’ve spoken to that has had anything positive at all to say about it, let alone to have it in the top 5 or 10 of the MCU

Idk if I’d put GOTG2 in my top 5 MCU movies but it’s a great movie and I love it a lot

The overall online opinion of Guardians 2 definitely skews negative.

That & the overwhelming adoration for Far From Home are both very strong reasons for me to not give a shit what most of the internet has to say about Marvel movies.

Low on metacritic but high on rotten tomatoes. And you’re one the first person I’ve seen that doesn’t like it. It’s not perfect and it probably sits just outside the top 10 for me. But to say it’s bad is just a bit odd, thats all.

Swings and roundabouts I guess. Each to their own.

neither are that good. i’m of the opinion that the jokier the MCU tends to get, the worse the movie is, with a few exceptions.

I always respect @Tim opinion but GOTG2 is truly terrible.

GOTG2 is like a 6/10 for me. I didn’t hate it. It’s enjoyable. I wouldn’t rewatch it anytime soon though.

    who cares

MY OFFICIAL HONEST OFF THE CUFF MCU RANKING:
Iron Man 1 - B (a fun time at the movies!)

The Incredible Hulk - C (could be better, could be worse...this one is pretty forgettable)

    Iron Man 2 - C- (pretty bad.)

Thor - C+ (more fun than i remember it being and the first super impressive CGI one)

Captain America - C (kinda wild how bad this one is since most the Cap ones tend to be the best)

Avengers - B (almost entirely on how impressive it was they actually pulled it off, before they did anything that scale level prior. the actual “movie” on paper doesn’t work for me almost at all)
    ____________

Iron Man 3 - B- (theres some fun stuff but a lot of dumb stuff too)

Thor 2 - D- (probably the worst of the bunch. hard to make a big movie this poorly)

Winter Soldier - A- (genuinely love this movie)

GOTG - B+ (same. super fun time)

Ultron - C (idk what this movie was trying to do)

Ant-Man - B (fun and silly and probably best to not think to hard about it)
    __________________

Civil War - B (kind of tied with Avengers 1 for me. the plot could have been better and the actual comic storyline for this is great, but the movie was interesting)

Doctor Strange - C+ (i know some love this one and theres cool CGI/psych stuff but it really doesn’t work for me mostly bc BenCumb)

GOTG2 - C- (idk how this movie was this bad)

Homecoming - B+ (a lot of the stuff about the villain is pretty dumb but i love Holland in this role)

Ragnarok - A (my second favorite MCU. a fun time through and through. see what happens when you let directors be themselves!!)

Black Panther - A- (pretty much the same feeling. i like it more when the CGI takes a backseat and they do the more wakanda/oakland focused stuff)

Infinity War - A (my favorite MCU. pretty fantastic)

Ant Man 2 - C+ (fun but feels totally unnecessary and an odd choice right after their biggest movie to date)

Captain Marvel - B- (fuck the trolls. a perfectly fine middle of the road movie, though cheapened a bit bc flashback movies aren’t the best)

Endgame - B (a fine ending to the main run but some of the stuff was extremely cheesy imo.)

Far From Home - B (a step below homecoming but still fun. i love jakey g in this)

If I wanted to watch a bad Marvel movie, I'd watch Infinity War.

Anyways, thank goodness that the director of Guardians 2, the best Marvel movie, teamed up with the lead actress of the best DC movie, Birds of Prey, to make this dope film. Between this, Batman, & Venom, it's gonna be an absolutely wild summer for comic book movies next year.

What exactly is this movie going to be? Are they pretending the first one doesn’t exist?

GOTG2 was the lesser of the two when I saw it in theaters, but that opinion quickly changed the next time I saw it. It holds up way more than the first. It's the only MCU movie I find myself thinking about and wanting to rewatch.

technically it’s a sequel but they’re pretending the first doesn’t exist yeah

I mean, I’d personally be happy to pretend the Academy Award winning film Suicide Squad doesn’t exist. But, I imagine this will mostly consider that film as canon without being a direct sequel, in a similar way to how Birds of Prey handled it.

Will this movie follow up with BOP? I always took BOP sort of being isolated (but connected in very minor ways like the Joker off screen break up).

  25. I'm always here for @Tim singing the praises of GotG2 since it's also my favorite MCU movie.

Anyways, hyped for this. Glad to see Jai back. Captain Boomerang was actually hilarious on the first movie I thought.
