I remember being so bummed when FIOE came out. Like many, I adored the first two albums. But I did not connect with FIOE at alllll. I don't think I've ever been able to listen to the entire album.
I'm listening to Comedown Machine again for the first time in a while and man, it's not as good as I remember. About half good and half boring.
I looooooove “Fear of Sleep”. But sequencing (and not cutting) “Killing Lies” right before it is insanity. “Hey let’s put this crappier version of a great song right in front of it on the track list”. Never made an ounce of sense to me. Almost can say the same for “Vision of Division” and “Electricyscape” tbh. Separated by a few tracks but are similar and serve almost the same purpose. I’d love FIOE as a 10-11 song album. Cut “15 Minutes” (perfect title for that slog of a 4 minute song), “Killing Lies”, and “Vision of Division”
First Impressions was funny, because everyone wanted them out of that ITI/Room on Fire sound. Then they did that and no one vibed with it. I don't know, I always enjoyed it. You Only Live Once and Heart In A Cage owned back then and own today.
I love “You Only Live Once”, “Razorblade”, “Fear of Sleep”, “Ize of the World” and “Red Light”. I’m still not sure “Juicebox” works? But I kinda like it as an experiment. Such an odd song. I respect them going with that as the first single. YOLO was the right/obvious choice imo.
Saw CRX open for Spoon. The worst opening set I’ve ever seen. Just awful stuff. Obnoxiously loud. Songs are boring. Spoon set was incredible though so. Nbd. Comedown Machine is v good. “Tap Out” and “One Way Trigger” are top tier Strokes tracks. Edit: and “Slow Animals” Edit 2: and “Chances” Wow. Really good record.
