Under Cover of Darkness might actually be my absolute favorite. It’s like the perfect song.

Yeah I've always been surprised Under Cover isn't a clear fan favorite, that song is fucking amazing

Comedown Machine is so good.

Been almost 7 years!

So excited for this album.

 

Hot take I guess: Machu Picchu is very underrated, I always end up playing that song a bunch of times after throwing it on. Angles in general is very underrated, I agree with the comments that said Under Cover of Darkness is one of their best.

 

I agree with all of this

 

The part during the chorus of Under Cover where it really kicks in ("and I'm tired of all your friends") is one of the best moments in their discography

 

First 2 records are pretty much perfect in my eyes. The other three have enough great moments on each to warrant existing. I think Comedown Machine is their most cohesive and steady since Room on Fire if not my favorite to go back to. I think the highs are higher on FIOE and Angles, but FIOE is overstuffed and Angles has a few experiments that don’t work for me. But all three records have canon tracks.

I think “At the Door” is the best Julian has sounded since Room on Fire. Melody is reminiscent of FIoE era. And imo could grow to be one of their all time best songs. It’s pretty excellent.

 

call it fate is their best closer. that might be my favorite julian vocal performance.
