My Olympics hot take is that the Soviets beating us in basketball in '72 by a single point in a 4th quarter seconds on the clock clincher was way more "miraculous" and a bigger deal than the US beating the Soviets in hockey in '80. But Americans pretend the former never happened.
i'm not a huge sports fan, but i enjoy throwing on Peacock's Olympics streams and replays in the background while i get work done. although one of my partner's prospective grad students just sold us on watching curling, after she walked us through how involved it was, so i think we're gonna have to tune into that.
Love curling. Out of all Olympic sports it has the most strategy involved. They call it "chess on ice" for a reason. Honestly Team Schuster winning the US it's first curling gold in 2018 was my miracle on ice moment.
Yeah after 2018 people were pitching Paul Rudd as John Schuster. Really is a crazy underdog story and would make a great movie.
