Seems like a regression from Proper Dose. Will check out the next stuff but don't have expectations up that high. If it's just a one off I wouldn't be surprised to hear it's a song that was written a while ago.
If I recall correctly, when they released Out Of It as a song before announcing Proper Dose the album, it was slightly different than the Out Of It that made the album (production-wise)
Echoing some others in the thread, this seems more like a regression than a continuation / evolution of the stellar Proper Dose sound.
Their instagram post/caption about it didn't seem like they were very excited about a new song dropping haha.
I think you can tell the effort here just isn't there with Big Blind. Very safe song and it feels like something they've had for a while in the vault. Pretty lacklustre after Proper Dose, which I just threw on again for the first time in a while (fall / autumn album for me) and it still rules.
They’ve always not cared, but they’ve also been on the verge of breaking up for what feels like 7 years lol
Yeah, not much lasting value or an immediate need to play on repeat. Will still be excited to hear whatever else they put out and I'm jealous of those that get to see them open for blink.
Sorry I lied. It was engineered and produced by the NP dude. It was mixed by Rick Costey who also mixed the Box Car Racer album. So that’s pretty rad I guess lol
i did some reading and i saw mikey ambrose from SYG is drumming for them now and their actual drummer switched to bass after they gave their bassist the boot last year, random! if its new new maybe mikey recorded the drums for it? if so, hes a beast of a drummer imo! long live SYG!! forever love the toms roll in this one first comment says 'Mike Ambrose is a beast' love to see it!
also what the fuck was i doing that day, i live in chicago, it was parkway drive, SYG, the ghost inside and the warriors at the HOB, probably for like 30 bucks and i slept on it like an idiot
Possible Torf still recorded the drums, but he hasn’t been playing drums live for a few years now because of health problems. Mikey’s been the guy since at least shows coming out of Covid. Torf’s just been a third guitar/keys/tambo in that time. At least bass he’ll be constantly involved in the playing of the songs.
Yeah he’s still recording drums for TSSF - Mike is only covering for live sets.. which is a little bit of a shame IMO
I dig the track after a few repeat listens but yeah this band really is running low on gas if this is what we get after 5 years. Fingers crossed for a curveball for the second single!
Makes sense that everyone stepped away for a while then came back instead of them secretly working on stuff for the last 5 years.
plus they've all been doing other projects, will and mikey doing that cold moon band? i forget the name and no pressure obvi
