I mean could there be any other context for lyrics like “my pessimistic views/stem from all the drugs I use”
Needs more bite. I don’t think the choruses are there. They definitely released the best of the album prior to the release. They always have kick ass closers but I think light year is standard fair. The vocals definitely sound improved but the guitars and drums seem to get buried. I still like this album but I actually think I put it at the bottom.
Growing On You is currently my favorite song from the album. I really want a TSSF album of only chill songs. This album convinced me that they could pull off an entire album of songs like Growing On You, Take Me As You Please, Line, and Upside Down.
I don’t think this is their best record (it’s up there imo) but I think they laid some ground work to put out something even better next time around. I think this is really solid and can appreciate almost every single track on here. It’s also some of Puras best work in awhile.
I definitely think this is a bridge record for sure. I’m excited for what’s next even though this just dropped haha
Listened to this a few times on long drives this weekend and I’m all in. Love everything on this. And it just sounds great, production wise. It definitely has some signature TSSF sounds but there’s a lot of new territory for them. Love it.
Haven't caved in and listened to the leak.... only a few more days to go! Couple things i will say ('cause this thread is getting me super hyped): 1. The finale of Take Me As You Please could serve as the ending music to many of John Hughes' movies. 2. Upside Down could easily fit on a Transit record; especially the chorus. The production and mid-tempo vibe of this song is probably what Young New England should've sounded like.
love the dynamic and the entire flow of the album. I'm really enjoying Keep This Up; the middle section doesn't lose me (even Line). Only gripe is that the closer could be a little more epic as it sounds similar to so many off the self-titled, but i still enjoy it. at this point, *i feel like* i'll keep coming back to this album for some time.
I can’t help but to feel “Line” is a love letter to 90s music. It’s got that MTV Unplugged vibe mixed with the beat to Joy Division’s “Dead Souls”. Love this song.
Listening to the vinyl as we speak. They played a lot longer of a set than I expected tonight. I figured it would be an unplugged, acoustic set, but got a full band electric instead. I walked in during the middle of Out of It because traffic sucked so I'm not sure if they had played anything prior to that. Out Of It Let It Go Upside Down Take Me As You Please Empty Space Heavy Gloom Nerve Clairvoyant Seemed like they were still getting used to playing the new ones live, but the band seemed to be in better spirits when they were playing them, especially Parker. They're excited the album is coming out and we were really grateful people came to watch. Nice not seeing excessive finger pointing the entire time (except for the one guy doing it during Take Me As You Please).
i think Keep this up is my favorite off the record so far after these last couple of days. the only thing that slightly bothers me is that the rhythm guitars is screaming Pentimento - The Bridge.
I couldn't get into the self titled apart from a few songs, but damn, this one hit me instantly. It's really good, front to back!
