After a few more listens, but for a couple of songs this record is boring as shit and feels very phoned in like they don’t even want to be bothered. I have to conclude that this band is nothing without Sam Pura pushing them to actually put in some effort.
Not really getting the hate on the closer. Very nice melodies and a welcomed vocal approach in general. Nice guitar playing there too, the beginning reminds me a lot of Moving Mountains
The first four songs on this are solid, gets real spotty after that. Very satisfied with All This Time and feel validated in not hearing it before having the full record. I like Keep You Around. Nothing To Say and You’re Still In My Way in particular are such slogs. Overall this feels like a regression but PD seems like unattainable territory for this band in retrospect so maybe I should lower bar a little haha
Ehh, I still dislike the production / mixing on this. It sounds overall like a step back from Proper Dose.
Album rips. Have an appreciation for a lot of the lyrical content about losing his dad. Captured a lot of the same things I’ve felt.
the gap between pepsi and coke is massive but the gap between diet pepsi and diet coke is closer than the Big Coke people want you to believe also fuck parker for a) supporting a rapist and giving him a career and also for b) carrying on with the worst example of liam gallagher cosplay i’ve ever seen in my life, that’s all i got here
Very enjoyable first listen and glad there’s a new album. Proper Dose is this band’s masterpiece. this is much more like their older stuff but….cleaner and tighter.
This band really found a magic formula while making Proper Dose so it feels unfair to compare to that one, but this is better than Self Titled for me and I'll definitely jam it a lot this summer. Cool album.
Ok, here we go. First thoughts. When drinking out of a glass - Coke > Pepsi When drinking out of a can - Coke > Pepsi
S/T is the only record of theirs I never go back to. Never clicked for me and Proper Dose just blew the doors off of my expectations of what this band can deliver.
Coke is pretty much always preferable to Pepsi imo. I really can't think of a single scenario where I would prefer Pepsi. I get that some people do but it's just not me. Not that I dislike Pepsi! I just think Coke is superior. Fountain coke from McDonald's being the best form of it, Mexican Coke from the glass bottle being #2. That said, my favorite overall soda is still Baja Blast. I don't really even drink soda much, except when I go to Taco Bell. Gotta get a Baja Blast at TB.
I might as well jump into this conversation. As an ultra runner, I typically don't drink soda, but when I do, which is almost always at an aid station during a race.....It's Coca-Cola Classic. One it hits your lips....you can do anything. Pepsi does nothing for my body.
Now here's some interesting data: Pepsi lost the cola wars to Coke. Why is it struggling to hold on to second place? Apparently this month, for the first time in a very long time, Pepsi was no longer the #2 soda behind Coke in terms of market share. Dr. Pepper overtook it for the #2 spot. Granted, it was only with a market share of 8.34% vs. Pepsi's 8.31%, but nevertheless it is surprising to me at least. The article speculates that this could be a sign that those consumers who do want to drink soda are now more and more looking to branch out beyond basic colas into other flavor profiles. As another example, it points to Fanta Orange, which experienced an even bigger percentage of growth over the same time period than Dr. Pepper did, going up 10% in sales volume sales and 20.2% in dollars and reaching #9 in terms of market share. I don't necessarily know how credible that explanation is but it's interesting to see Pepsi declining like this when in the 90s it apparently had 15% market share and obviously a secure spot at #2. Also overall I imagine less people are actually drinking soda these days vs. even 10 years ago, let alone in the 90s. Would love to hear others' thoughts on this.
I guess I'm on the outside looking in here but is it really necessary to spam a thread with a totally unrelated topic? Cool if you want to share your thoughts about the artist (positive or negative) but kind of lame how the discourse in here is completely unrelated to the topic...
I feel like this is a "riding their coattails" situation, because my wife, who goes through more Dr. Pepper in a week that I do sodas in a year, really doesn't mind when a restaurant has Mr. Pibb.
Oh no I was just making a joke, I like Mr. Pibb. I think it's pretty good. I used to always get it from Chipotle back in college years ago.
