Ive met some of the dumbest people on this site but you might be the biggest dipshit ever for saying something like this. Your ass better get permabanned
I like that when googling "the story so far i want to disappear" on the first page is: Making it harder for casual listeners to miss the whole picture when it comes to this band.
I would have never known about Harry Corrigan (and also JJR) if it were not for this website so I think continuing to speak out is a net positive because there are still plenty of people who have no idea about Harry or do not know the full story of what happened.
It's absolutely what you've been doing my dude. I just went through the whole thread and you just popped up every few pages saying 'pssst, there's rapist in Parkers other band'. There's public information on the whole situation and for those who didn't know about it, you saying it once is probably enough to let them know and then they can do what they want with that information. Excited for this album. I have liked the majority of their previous releases and I think I'll find a lot to like here based on the singles. RE TSSF Live - I think the energy of the crowd has always made up for the lack of energy on stage when I've seen them. Never been bored or felt like I needed more personally (but it's only been twice and the last time was forever ago).
That post was in response to someone saying I am “yelling at people for listening to the band”. You may need some reading comprehension as well
And my point is that you felt the need to repeat yourself the first few pages, mostly unprompted. If you don't have an ulterior motive / goal of shaming people, sharing that information once is enough. Just like your reading comprehension jab - yawn - We can all read fine here, and what most people are saying is 'we get it'. At least that's what I'm saying. Feel free to post that Parker employs a rapist every few pages. I'll just share my album thoughts with most others in here around those posts.
Truly I don’t know how you would need to find an “ulterior motive” as to what I am doing. The motive is very, very clear. I think Parker is a piece of shit for having HC in a side project. I think it is important to post about it for people who might not know. When better to pop in than right before a release? I also think that people in here should think critically about where they spend their money. Lining the pockets of people who pal around with rapist sucks, and I am making that point known. There is no motive beyond that.
Because they think that I am saying that listening to this band makes them “bad”, as if I am some sort of chorus fm santa claus
The defensiveness is crazy, I just don't get why anyone would think it isn't worth bringing up. You can ride for the band if you want, but you gotta be willing to claim that part or simply ignore these posts. It's really what's prolonging the whole discussion in here
I still listen to Mac DeMarco and posted my own warning about his allegations in the thread for his latest album. Nobody's perfect, we're capable of making informed decisions and enjoying something while being critical of the person who made it. It ain't that deep!
Yes, agreed, would love to see disclaimers on page one of a thread or a symbol next to the thread title to indicate an opportunity to explore allegations/concerns on an individual basis vs people interrupting conversations about the music to repeat themselves though. This isn't about being defensive it's calling out repetitive behavior that aims to solve a large problem in a very small space.
I don't take it personally but 1) you could debate if that's an apt description or not based on one allegation from 9 years ago about an incident 12 years ago (I will correct this if there's more to it than what I've found), and 2) it's annoying to constantly get derailed from discussions of art to have circular discussions about any given artists morality. You either want to point it out to 1) shame other people or 2) make yourself feel better because 'look, not only am I boycotting said thing, but I'm doing it OUT LOUD!'. You literally are saying that though. You've said multiple times that you want people to think harder about where they spend their money and that spending it on anything TSSF related is being complicit and condoning of the behavior of the drummer in his other band... so like... connect the dots you've put down? How do you even do anything in life anywhere without a full background of the person you've engaging with? (and the background of any of their associates).
The disclaimer solution does not work. Where is the line drawn for who is problematic? Are there different stickers for different problematic events/the severity? It also defeats the other point of my posts, which very clearly worked well in here. Disruption. A sticker can very easily be scrolled by. So can my posts, but more people choose to engage with them.
It is always so funny when people try to bring this argument off of the site. I am a normal person, I live a normal life. I am not checking IDs or running background checks on everyone just because I think that it is wrong that Parker has HC in a band, lol To see this translated to real life (which it has): a student will ask me if I like this band. I’d say “yeah they’re alright. The lead singer is kind’ve a piece of shit though, he’s in a band with a dude who has done some terrible stuff”. And they either ask more or go “oh wow that’s crazy” and keep listening. It is very easy to do, non combative, and the conversation ends where it ends.
Now that everyone’s discussed and shared their points and all of the appropriate dicks have been sucked… proper dose top-3 pop punk album of the 2010s? or literally anything but this
This is a total cop-out. We're talking about a known abuser being gifted a public platform after already misusing his first one vs what, random people at work? Friends? Because I've had creeps come out of the woodwork IRL and had to drop them, too. Two very different situations that have led to the same outcome. I don't know what kind of weird gotcha this is, but if I hear about someone being abusive in either setting, I have to reckon with it and make decisions based on my own values and beliefs. I'm not actively seeking out people presenting harmful behavior in my life, but if it presents itself, yes, I have to deal with it.
Like, this is an incredibly normal response about how to handle things IRL and the post beneath it is absolutely seething lol I don't understand what about this post would make any normal person upset
