Yea they've been running in my head since I was 16. It was the first time I listened to music and felt included in it along with all of my friends the same age at the time. Kenny being pretty much the same age as us made it feel personal. Totally different experience than growing up listening to Metallica, the Goo Goo Dolls, Live, Matchbox 20, Counting Crows and having "adults" sing music for me and I loved all those bands. From NFG to Starting Line that's when emo became the music I have forever identified with.
It will always amaze me how mature of an outlook a young Kenny had on girls on their first couple of releases. You don't always need to be angry and want revenge on the girl you were friends with and wanted more out of it. Take notes, other pop-punk bands.
I don't remember which song it was. But it was BOATS, or a song they ended up cutting from that record. Around that time.
I do remember an interview in AP where the writer spoke about the song with the band and said that someone with the initial C.S. was going to be pretty bummed haha
I found it! Taste Of Tuesday: In 2003, the Starting Line became an overnight success Anything you’ve thought about writing and had second thoughts? There’s always stuff I want to say, but I am afraid people would either take it the wrong way or it would get me into trouble. Like what? On our next record is the new ex-girlfriend, who is 10 times worse than the last one. I have a song where I say her full name, and I am not sure if we are going to be able to do that. But I think it would be really good if everybody knew who exactly it was. Regardless, he was an actual child then and people grow up and figure their shit out.
So I have an extra ticket for LA. Willing to let it go for $45. You can send it out there for others to see as well. EDIT: SOLD
Oh man is that tempting.... I'm going up to Santa Barbara that Saturday, and maybe that Friday. Don't hold it for me by any means, but once I figure out my weekend I might reach out...............
