I remember hearing something from TSLs manager about their label at the time just did not want to get behind the band. They tested the song in some terrible rock market thinking it would fail and they could just move on from them. It backfired, and the song took off, but the label still refused to give them the resources needed for the band to really take off.
Late to the party but HOT DAMN! Fantastic news. Time to go on a nice sunny walk and listen to Direction :)
It’s been a while since I’ve listened to Direction (perhaps 2-3 years?) and man.. it still holds up very well. I used to think BOATS was their best record but now I’m not so sure?
I still think BOATS is their peak and they played it a little safer on Direction, but Direction grew a lot over time
I personally think the biggest problem with BOATS is that they didn’t go with the Tim O’Heir version of Bedroom Talk and leaving off Classic Jazz/Lasting Impressions
I think it's the weakest song for sure, but Kenny's vocal conviction sells it for me, it's still a jam. If the chant was removed from the bridge I'd like it 20% more
I thinks BOATS is still my favorite. In the middle of a discog run, so I’ll see if that changes soon. That era just means a whole lot to me.
This is the first time I’m hearing of a non-full band Nights & Weekends? Y’all aren’t talking about Lasting Impressions right
