Drums replaced means Tom's parts cut differently with Kenny Aronoff or he just sort of played on top of it to re-do all of it? That's quite insane. So far this episode is very interesting, and the bits of the original demo are really cool
He says "they just got Kenny Aronoff to recut the drums for the whole thing" so I took that to mean he retracked the whole song (so they didn't have to splice two drummers' performances together). But regardless, the thing he was actually upset about was that they changed the whole groove of the verses after the fact without really even consulting them - less about Tom not having his performance on there.
Oh ok, I get it! I also caught Kenny using the phrase 'cutting vocals' most probably referring to recording takes, so that would make for some consistent meaning with it (just hadn't heard the lingo before it seems ;d)
Based on this convo about the drums, I went to check out the credits for Direction on Wikipedia, and if it is to be believed, Aronoff also played drums on Are You Alone and What You Want - bizarre that I never knew this. I do not recommend reading the Reception section of that article, opinions are dumb and this album is so good.
yeha and when they play it live, a lot of the accents are back tracked, tom can't play all those beats (im a drummer though and picked up on that seeing them live 07/08)
They’re not coming out West so if anyone wants to pick up the white t-shirt for me I will pay for the shirt+shipping+tip. They had it but ran out of everything fairly quickly in October last year.
Damn I really like that Yves Saint Laurent shirt and I'm a sucker for burgundy shirts. Too bad they're not coming anywhere close.
One thing about the starting line is that they have never been short of a good t shirt idea. I swear they had hundreds of them on the website back in the day. Great merch range!
