Yep! A really rough demo, but full band nonetheless. It surfaced a long time ago, may still be on YouTube. If it's not lmk and I can send it to you later!
Anyone follow Ken on instagram? Vacationer's in the studio and there's some cool sounds happening that includes a harp
@Jason Tate I just read your AP review for Based on a True Story and I was wondering what your problems with the production on SILYMI are specifically?
Man, this is weird, haha! I've listened to the acoustic version a billion times, but I don't think I've heard this demo until now. It's trippin' me out.
I remember being so bummed the first time I heard BOATS and there was no Lasting Impressions haha. In the liner notes of MYAH Ken said it was gonna be on the next LP so I was anticipating it pretty hard. Was very happy when that demo finally surfaced... even if in retrospect it would've been one of the lower ranked songs on BOATS (which says a lot but still)
I didn't like the electronic additions to a variety of songs (like, I think the new version of "Cheek to Cheek" couldn't compare to the original). I also think it sounds rough around the edges while clearly trying to be cleaner. Neal Avron just was doing that sound better at that time IMO, and I think what they got to on BOATS is markedly better. And I'm a Trombino fan, I just have never liked some of the decisions made on that album.
Damn, now I gotta do that. Are you from that area? I live in San Diego. Never been to Santa Barbara and now I feel like I have to go there just to blast Direction on the drive.
