They already did a SILYMI tour back in 12, which was insane. Would love to hear BOATS live. Direction has never resonated outside of a couple songs.
It is remotely close considering I don’t like direction much at all outside of a couple songs but adore the first two albums
BOATS is so much more fun and engaging for me than Direction. I like pretty much all of Direction and it has some monster hooks, but there’s something about the approach of it that doesn’t excite me as much as BOATS.
Maybe it’s just the style I like more. I dunno. Still listen to the first two often. Directions hardly ever.
They’re such time machines though. SILYMI especially. That album immediately teleports me to my high school years. I still listen to it more than any other TSL album.
*shrug* I am not turning to a 00s pop-punk band for sophisticated, timeless music (and I also don’t really think Direction meets that criteria either, to be perfectly honest).
I wouldn’t call Direction sophisticated or timeless either, but for me it’s a better listen if i’m not just seeking nostalgia.
All three albums are amazing. I tend to listen to SILYMI more but that’s more likely because it’s been in my life longer. When I listen to Direction I get a bit angry because they didn’t blow up with that. But I’m also happy because they left on such a great note.
This is how I feel too!! I love all three albums but BOATS just has something about it. I only started listening the band about 5 years ago, when I was 18, so I don’t have a whole lot of nostalgia tied to any of the albums, they’re all just good!
I listened to Direction for the first time in years yesterday and enjoyed it a lot more than I did when it was first released. Direction doesn't have any kind of nostalgia attached to it like SILYMI and BOATS did, which tells me it's actually just a solid album.
All three albums have a different type of charm about them, really. I can't possibly rank their discography even though it's just three albums and a few EPs because I like them all for different reasons.
I think Are You Alone is at or near the bottom of their catalog, otherwise I think Direction is super solid. 21, Birds, and Somebody's Gonna Miss Us are all top ten TSL songs for me.
oh man, Are You Alone has some of Kenny's most raw and emotional vocals though, the way he sings that song is nuts
I gotta say I enjoyed the album a lot more that I recall when I just spun it in its entirety for the first time in YEARS. Might have to give this some more time. Count me in on Are You Alone is a good tune.
