Just always been a crowd favorite, a lot of people’s entry into TSL because it was on a lot of compilations before their first full length was released
Saw them last night, they were the best I've ever heard them. They were having a lot of fun too, Kenny gave the crowd condolences for the Mariners loss haha. Was hoping to hear Humility, but still got an insanely great, varied set. Didn't expect to get Are You Alone or Birds, those were pleasant surprises. They kept called Eternal Youth "the album of the year, according to Reddit." First time seeing Finch as well, I had low expectations for some reason but they were awesome. Nate sounds great still. I'm not really a fan of What It Is To Burn anymore, but still adore Say Hello To Sunshine. The latter songs didn't really get much of a reaction from the crowd, but they were *awesome* to hear live and the band seemed way more into those songs. The new songs were cool as hell too.
Sense Of Humor was received pretty well, the others didn’t seem to land as well. They opened with I See and it didn’t feel like the show “started” for most people until the second song
I am very certain as well that they did not. Accurate - I was there too. People were just standing around during the new songs, save for a few people. The second song was Surprise, Surprise and the crowd got WAY more active. Once they reached Sense of Humor, Kenny said something along the lines of "you know, it's okay for the pit to get into the new songs, I know you know them even though they're new, just let muscle memory take over." The pit was a little more active at that point. I think the Direction songs, save for Island, also didn't get a ton of response from the fans. On a related note: the response during Finch's set between when they played WIITB songs and Sunshine songs was huge. No one seemed into Say Hello To Sunshine.
I've got a pair of front row lower balcony seats for LA if anyone is looking; we don't have a sitter and that drive to LA is brutal from Orange County lately. Face value (OBO), I don't want them going to waste.
I have never in my life yelled out a song name at a concert, but with all of the people that kept yelling for Playing Favorites and I’m Real (sigh), I was very tempted to shout this one out as a form of encouragement haha
@Aaron Mook forgot to comment more on it in music league, but yeah you should definitely check this out! Don’t know if you’ll love it but you definitely won’t hate it haha
Maybe I'll throw it in today then - I definitely like The Starting Line, I just don't listen to a lot of pop-punk adjacent stuff anymore, but I have a feeling this will be on the more mature side of things. And I really liked the song you submitted for Music League.
I loved the first two TSL in their time but only go back to listen to them like once a year when I get that nostalgia itch but I fucking love this one. i think its by far their best work.
Ugh. This bums me out as well. I'm always a bit mystified by a crowd's disinterest in any song being performed by a band they like enough to take the time and literally pay to see. When I saw them, the crowd barely reacted to an absolute banger of a performance of Circulate. That has to be at least a bit disheartening to see from the stage. I know it's just my midwest politeness on overdrive, but when I caught them in September I was nodding right along to Greg's Last Day (easily my least favorite track) the same as I did to my favorites. Feed the egos and energy of the artists you love, dammit! Haha.
Totally agree - aren't you guys here to see a great band and have a good time? I've been going to shows for 20+ years now and it still absolutely drives me up the wall when the band finishes a song and you can hear a bunch of conversation in the crowd - holy shit, shut up and enjoy the show.
Agreed - if you’re the guy trying to force a mosh pit during A Goodnight’s Sleep but can’t be bothered to show the band a little love for Blame, it’s time to get back in touch with yourself
Detroit rocked out to Circulate. Sense of Humor is pretty mellow and gives everyone a bit of a break.
I think I find myself coming back to Granted the most here. Took me a few listens but this thing is really clicking with me as a whole now.
All the songs on this album would have me screaming. I was happy to at least hear I See How It Is and Sense of Humor at WWWY but I hope they tour again next year to hear more than that.
Sad to miss the show tonight and that last time they were in town I had to sell my ticket because I forgot I was out of state that day. One day it will happen.
