The run from album 1 - 4 is incredible however going in reverse order might not be as incredible depending on your musical interests. lol
Finished a first spin and think this has the potential to top Direction for me. Standouts (apart from the singles, which are already in my blood) are Curveball, Enjoyment, and the title track.
Normally I'm content to wait but this was my most anticipated of the year and I feel like I NEED it now haha
Great album. Enjoyment is incredible! Having a new TSL album in 2025 is enough for me not to mention anything about Yip's production. I'm happy just to have it.
Enjoyment is one of my favorites as well. It's not necessarily the production that bugs me, but it does feel like it doesn't really let up. I think Kenny has improved his screaming since BOATS and Direction, but need a little more variety. And this is just a NITPICK: but when he does the "TI-i-I-i-I-i-I-me" in Defeating+Pivot and immediately follows it with "Throu-oo-oo-oogh/Eternal You-oo-oo-oo-th" in the very next track, it felt like when somebody uses a obscure word twice in the same day.
Imagine putting out three incredible full lengths, then waiting 18 years, then saying “hey here’s another one”. This album has a lot of big swings and I absolutely love it
Could not be happier with this as a return album. It shares enough to feel of a piece with their past work but also feels fresh enough as a 2025 release. I have no real issues with the production other than to say it didn't sound the best on the speakers in my office, but sounded excellent on my AirPods and I can't wait to blast it over my main house system this weekend. Excellent addition to an all but impeccable discography. Looking back I can't believe the amount of quality material these guys put out in a 6-year span.
"curveball"!!! i'm like... giddy about how rad this song is. listening to it one more time before i move on haha.
bassline on Eternal Youth and the outro to Enjoyment are my fav moments thus far! Benchmark is a great closer. gets me amped to hit replay.
Honestly, I'm fuckin stoked. My first listen was on a run this morning with Airpods and it was a perfect setting for the vibe of the album. While I'm a sucker for tasteful overproduction, this album feels raw in a wonderfully consistent way, like they wanted it to have a live show feel. It's so fucking cool to hear pieces of all of Kenny's projects come through in this, and just so damn fulfilling to have them stick the landing on their return. Damn I love this band.

I just finished Defeat the Purpose but this is so so so good so far. They sound fresh as ever. Also I know he’s been given his bona fides as a songwriter, but I need to give Kenny his props as a bassist. It’s not easy to sing and play bass, and some of these basslines are pretty intricate. I feel like people don’t give his playing enough love.
Even going back to SILYMI, there’s some songs where especially at his age have a lot of detail that contemporary bassists that aren’t even singing weren’t even attempting
