Anybody have extra tickets to Chicago on Friday? Going to be in town with a group of friends and would take any off your hands for the right price.

  4. At St. Andrew’s now preparing to see Real Friends open for TSL at this venue for a second time (first being a dozen years ago).

The opener, Macseal was sick. Great addition to this bill.

  5. Macseal is very good. I like Finch and all but I still wish they were the Seattle opener instead

This was so good. All the flourishes and licks on one guitar.

Sounded great in Nashville tonight. Kind of bummed they shortened the set to 20 songs from 22 and dropped Luck and a Direction song. I’m a weird fan since SILYMI has always been my least favorite TSL album. Also it was annoying to hear repeated shouts and chants for Bedroom Talk. Not into it.

I was also at the Nashville show and it is a bummer to look at setlists for other nights - I wonder why we got 2 less songs than the other shows, and I really would have loved for them to play Direction. It was really cool seeing them play The Night Life, I never thought we'd hear a song from that EP live again. Overall such a great show and they seemed to be having a great time.

Do people really love Greg's Last Day so much for it to still be in the setlist? I really hope the new album blows up, because I'd love for their next tour to focus more on newer material - I'd rather hear anything from Direction than SILYMI at this point, but I get it.

Everyone's energy at the show was great, and Kenny mentioned multiple times that they want to return to doing this more often, they're just trying to convince Tom to quit his job :crylaugh:

  14. I just don't see SILYMI songs ever dropping out of the band's set, it's what the band's best known for and what most people come to see.

Yeah, they have to play what sells. And, don't get me wrong, I have a lot of love for SILYMI, but it just never landed with me to the point where I want to hear almost the entire album on any given tour date. But, hey, if that's what it takes to get a new album with hopefully more in the future then, by all means, play the whole damn album front to back.

Obviously said tongue in cheek, but in Nashville after repeated cries for the few SILYMI songs that weren't on the set, Kenny remarked, "Sounds like you all want more of that Say It Like You Mean It bullshit." Haha.

  17. Having gone to both of their SILYMI reunion tours, I was very happy to hear more bops from their other records (both of which I enjoy a lot more). Kenny said Direction was their best album until this upcoming one and I believe him. Looking forward to the next tour.

I believe that, Kenny gives off the vibe that he doesn't love that album.

@Jason Tate I saw your initial reactions to the record in the Q&A thread. Would love to know if you have more thoughts now that you've had a little more time with it!

So many bands from this genre I gravitate towards the early work and just don’t care much for their later material. This band is the exact opposite. Stronger as they go.

i don't revisit SILYMI as a listener much anymore, but will say i very much enjoy the songs live.

i love the newer Starting Line stuff and Direction is my favorite album, but there's something about yelling those songs in a crowd full of people that just feels right.

I've said it on these forums a few times but I'll say it forever. In my opinion there's no band in the scene that had a better or stronger natural progression between records like TSL. Every album was just a perfect continuation of what they did on the previous album. Nothing too far out in left field. Just right. (I'm 100% biased because they are my favorite band but I still think the argument holds up!)

And from the sound of the two most recent songs, this new record will continue that trend. Those two tracks are like....a perfect combo of being a new sound for the guys but also not far enough removed that it feels like a completely different band almost 20 years later. It's like a perfect continuation.

Gotta say, Sense of Humor and Circulate were both so good live, and I agree, feel like such a natural progression from where they left off.

I'm really on the edge of my seat to hear the rest of the album.

  25. Had to read back to see what I already said ... and ... I don't think I would change a lot after 7ish plays. Feelings still match up! I wish for a little more diversity in sound, and Yip is Yip, I've come to accept that. Hah.
