It feels like there is a new film called The Square every three years. Force Majeure was very good, so hopefully this continues that trend.
It's really sparse and not everybody will like it, but if you have the patience it is incredible and surprisingly funny
Wow, I did not like this. Mind you, I have only seen Safe from Ostlund, so I don't have the context to fit it in his body of work very well. But I thought it was extremely smug, especially considering how easy the targets it's going for are. Aesthetically speaking, it's some of the most boring film making I've seen this year. With regard to its Palme win, I would put it in the bottom 2-3 films I've seen to have won that prize.
Like I said, haven't seen enough to know if it's him I don't like or just this film. I also thought this was too long, but not in the traditional sense, but in the sense that every scene runs like 5 minutes longer than it needs to. I hope people find something in this, but definitely not for me.
Would be curious to see if you like Force Majeure to find out the answer to that first question as it's one of my favorites.
I've been meaning to watch it forever! I even had tickets to see a screening one night and it got cancelled. I was meant to watch it before seeing this but then just got caught up watching other stuff.
Did you finish it? What'd you think? I just watched it and enjoyed most of it while watching. Lots of interesting ideas/crazy scenes, but overall it never amounted to much. Definitely agreed with @brandon_260 that some of the scenes dragged on way too long for no real reason. Although I am curious to see Force Marjeure now.
