I think College is the best episode of the show, Pine Barrens and Long Term parking following closely.
Haha you never cease to amaze me! I always worry about suggesting Mad Men to people because the first like 5 or 6 eps are reallyyyy tough to get hooked on, I personally felt like I wasn't hooked until I found out about Don's real identity. Sopranos I was hooked right away, mafia stuff is such an easy sell for me. Plus the show was filmed in my hometown and surrounding towns made it even easier.
Sorry for the triple post, I beleive I read that episode is what got HBO to give Sopranos a second season, I could be very wrong though, coulda sworn I read that in a book though.
After seeing it for the first time (years after the series ended), I read on the episode’s wiki page that HBO executives objected to Tony’s first onscreen kill... “Executives said that Chase had done so well in building Tony up as a sympathetic character that they believed if Tony committed such a cold-blooded killing, fans would turn on him and the show would lose its protagonist. Chase said that he believed fans would turn on Tony if the character didn't commit murder, because the omission would make him appear weak.” A couple years ago I was writing for an entertainment site and did a top 10 countdown of best episodes and ranked College as the best (coincidentally ranked Pine Barrens and LTP as #2 and #3). Not only for Tony trying to balance out taking his daughter on a college tour while taking out a snitch, the B-story has Carmela fighting off temptation when she spent the night with the priest. One of the best-acted episodes of the series and I generally regard the second half of the series as superior.
Just started season 6. Forgot how much happens in the first episode. curto keeling over in front of the FBI agent is morbidly hilarious
I think twice about using the spoiler tag every time I post. I'd just hate to ruin anything for any first timers. This show is somehow significantly better the second time.
Yeah I think we all just have such immense respect for the show we would never want to ruin the experience for somebody.
When I watched the show I was AJ's age and it is how my father reacted to me on the computer. Now it is how I react when my students are on their phone.
I’ve got two episodes left and I’m done season one. So far I like it, but there’s no real consistent plot - just a handful of problems that get resolved in an episode or two
Most of the rankings say otherwise but season 1 just really up to par with the rest of the series. The last half of season 2 it really starts to pick up steam Edit: meant to say IS NOT up to par
We were talking about top 3 episodes before but ssn2 finale “fun house” is in the top 5 for damn sure.
Yeah I know how season two ends, as well as a handful of other major events. This is my first time ever watching it but the show debuted almost twenty years ago...and spoilers are a fickled bitch
I'll probably be done with season 6 by the end of next Friday and I'm thinking about starting again right away. Really should check out Barry and Better Call Saul though
Its crazy how alive the thread for this show is. Coincidentally, I just finished my second rewatch of the series about a month ago. Its so good I could start it again tonight.
That's exactly why the thread is so lively my guy. It's timeless. The themes they touch on are just as relevant today. Sometimes even more relevant.
The Sopranos Ending - Made In America Anybody ever read this? Really well-written and logical explanation of the ending.
this is a really, really interesting take and a great read, regardless of how on point the writer may or may not be in the end. i hope one day Chase gives us his thoughts and explanations, but i don't ever see it actually happening.
it's always bee my belief that Tony, AJ, & Carm were all killed and Meadow watched it happen, regardless of how it was set up, or by who.
