When he grabs Bobby’s shirt after he gets shot….brutal

 

how many times have people done a full watch through? i've done two and now i want to start a third.

 

Just finished my third or fourth run-through last month (I think my first pass at Sopranos was only 6 or 7 years ago). This is a comfort food show for me, I think it will be an annual event moving forward.

The IMDb boards were convinced that the shirt would have DNA that would implicate Bobby. They also thought the dead guy would turn out to be Harpo.

 

Tony's scenes with Bobby and Janice are where you really get to see how much of a villain he is. He can't stand the fact that Janice might be happy or do well so he has to tear her down as much as possible. There is that amazing scene from the previous season where he has to rub Harpo in her face to undo any of the help therapy did for her, and when Bobby decides to fight back he has to take his innocence from him.

 

Perfect read on him. I didn’t even think about it that way til you posted that. He totally “loses” to Bobby morally when he defends his wife. So his only option is to force him to do the worst thing possible

 

the dynamic between tony and janice just destroys anyone and anything that comes into contact with the both of them. that scene when carmela and janice are talking and carmela calls her out for talking in circles around what she thinks about him and shes like what what did i say???? when she knows damn fucking well what she was saying. tony pulls the same crap too. but its some weird familial competition between the two of them over who's more righteous or well adjusted when they're both truly amoral broken people.

 

Bobby is such a better person all around than Tony and he hates it. Bobby is a better caretaker to Junior, he is more loyal to his friends and bosses, he wasn't cheating on Karen, and he is a better father. Tony is impressed with his outdoor skills in Pine Barrens and especially when he says he can hunt with a bow and arrow.

Tony likes keeping his inner circle dependent on him. He creates impossible expectations for everyone; he can't have Chris too high too function but he resents his sobriety. He is annoyed by Paulie when he doesn't want to deal with him but he likes the extreme dedication and admiration he has for Tony. Silvio is the only one that can talk frankly with him and that is just because they grew up together.

 

Anyone who grew up in a toxic family can see the dynamics and how accurate they are. Tony is lucky that, for all their problems, Meadow and AJ are empathetic people.

its been really interesting seeing just how much tony has come to fucking hate aj in season 6 especially the first half (im only two episodes into the last part) because he's quite literally the natural outcome of him and carmella's parenting styles. meadow is an anomaly who succeeds despite her upbringing and in some ways i think her parents really resent her for that. and it makes them hate aj all the more. "we gave him everything" "he's spoiled" etc. when he's just a creation of their own doing

 

Loved Christopher until he started being so abusive to Adriana. Was stoked to see him die haha

 

When Tony is in the coma, Meadow reminds him that he will always be more loved because he's the son. AJ can't deal with the weight of being Tony's son and Tony can't even decide what he wants for AJ. He definitely doesn't want him in the life after what happens to so many of the young men in the show but you never hear him suggest anything else.

Both kids get a sort of twisted happy ending, though. Meadow will be rich, but she will be a soulless ghoul defending corporations, abandoning all of her rebellion. AJ will become another Little Carmine, rich but stupid and unserious.

 

really hard for me to not sympathize with christopher given my history. which is probably why i sympathize with him.

 

All of these people are impacted by generational trauma. That doesn't excuse what they do but it helps to understand where it comes from.

 

oh, he’s totally a flawed character, since the beginning. Those scenes where he is abusive is hard to watch. But overall, I found his arc to be the most fascinating.

 

I know i've done a full on watch beginning to end at least 4 times but I have gone back and rewatched specific seasons so many times its hard to tell how many times i have truly seen the show

 

My day is fucked.

 

Yea, I realized that sometime earlier this year when The Naked Gun was on.

 

We had an illegal satellite box back then that would go out about once a week and need to be refreshed so we really did think our TV went out. It was so confusing.

 

Christopher just relapsed and shot his AA screenwriter buddy what the fuck he’s losing it it’s fucking joever but also he’s literally one of “them” one of the people he hates because that’s the same exact thing any one of them would have done and many of them have done that and Christopher still doesn’t forgive himself for telling Tony about Adrianna working with the feds and can’t stand to be who he is anymore. I already know he doesn’t make it but I’m starting to see why.

 

I’m on my third episode in a row tonight, just started season 6 episode 18. will have this finished by the end of the week for sure.
