It’s not a great scene but I’m not hung up on it or anything. I’ve seen the show a few times now and it barely makes an impression on me tbh. My wife never noticed on her first watch. Chase wanted to give an on-screen ending to her character and it came across half-assed. Whatever. It almost has an eerie vibe—like, in her final moments, Livia becomes a parody of herself, and repeats a conversation she’s had many times over with her son.
Massive Genius is up there, but Fran Felstein is way worse. A lot of people hate the Christopher Columbus episode, and it definitely isn't subtle, but it is unintentionally hilarious.
The thing about the Christopher Columbus episode is i believe it was supposed to be Paulie all up in arms but Tony Sirico was unavailable at the time (i think health issue? i can't remember) so they made it Silvio instead. Silvio seems out of character here and maybe it would have been saved if it was Paulie acting that way instead. A great what if
I feel like I am pretty well versed in pop culture, but it is amazing how many you can miss. I am reading through some of the Wikipedia articles for individual episodes and some things I never caught.
Four episodes into the Sopranos, safe to say I’m addicted and don’t know why I waited this long to watch it.
