Man, Jackie Jr. f'ed up. Just watched the episode where he robs that card game and Chris was there. Now Ralphie is faced with the predicament of either giving the kid a pass or not. Kinda have a feeling that he'll do away with him since he's using the "he has a drug problem" as a cover-up to Rosalie so he can take whatever action he needs to. Season 3 finale tonight.
wrapped up season 3 and yeah, I figured Ralphie would just whack Jackie Jr. Quick and easy. There's definitely some interesting dynamics being built up. Tony and Carmella are having increased difficulties with AJ after he was expelled from school and couldn't get into military school because of his panic attacks. Tony showed some vulnerability in his session with Dr. Melfi, you can see that even though AJ pisses him off (he hit him this episode), he desperately wants to shield him from his world and everything that comes with it. There's a moment at Jackie Jr's funeral where Rosalie is crying and Tony is looking at his son and you can tell he is just desperate to keep him from going down the same path. On another note, Paulie seems to be getting more and more fed up with Tony and his conversation with Johnny Sacks in the parking lot makes it seem like he's trying to transition elsewhere since he's chafing at the whole Ralphie thing. And who knew Uncle Junior could sing?? That was another iconic scene and ending to a season. I was a bit confused as to why the music suddenly turned into Mandarin and then Spanish while he was singing, perhaps someone could fill me in on the meaning there. Almost halfway done!
https://sopranosautopsy.com/season-3-2/the-army-of-one-3-13/ The end of this article has some good info on it. But in case there are spoilers, this is what I'm referring to. A quote from David Chase.
I figured it was something like that. And thanks for linking that section, otherwise I'm pretty sure I would've waded into spoilers
Amazing website though, highly recommend you check it out once you're finished and ready to dissect the details.
Kennedy and Heidi is such an interesting episode. Just a few episodes until the end, they decided to take a detour into Tony's psyche again. They already had an episode about Tony feigning grief, so they move on from that pretty quickly. By this point Tony isn't able to perform sadness the way he was with his mother's death, or when Ralph goes "missing", or so many other times where he had to play a part. He destroyed Christopher's innocence, gave him little credit when Christopher surrendered his own fiance, and continued to torture him about his sobriety, and then in his dreams blames Christopher for the falling out. Like an animal, he has to go to Las Vegas and sleep with one of Chris' mistresses to mark his territory. While he yells that he gets it to the Sun in a drug-fueled stupor, he doesn't, and he doesn't even try to change.
One of my favorite episodes of the whole show. The peyote trip is really an excellent showcase of Tony’s idea of mysticism/spirituality—that he is the center of things; to forever take what he wants, to continually reward himself no matter the casualty. I think that’s what he means by “the same principle as the Solar System” (if everything is connected, and he’s winning at roulette, then Chris’ death is just another catalyst to his success) and that when “he gets it…” he’s become comfortable with that darkness inside himself, as it’s that darkness which provides for him.
Only a few episodes into S4 but there's this weird mostly off-screen thing between Carmella and Furio? Random. And these shows usually all end the same (Dexter, Breaking Bad - antihero type stuff). I'm starting to wonder if Meadow might be a key factor in sparking Tony's downfall. She seems to bring it up every so often and her parents brush it aside, but she's too smart to not see through the lies.
