Yeah by the time I watched it the first time I had heard of all but like two big events. Didn't affect me much though. I definitely forgot most of them in the moment.
I honestly have no clue what happens or how it ends. I think my wife has heard that it doesn't end well, but I haven't heard that myself. Hopefully I can remain blind throughout our marathon!
Honestly, I don't think spoilers hurts the experience of this show at all. (Of course, avoid them for a more fun time!)
Melissa sort of dips in and out of importance. So many of the scenes are great and provide an insight into Tony's psyche but Melfi herself can be just there. The end of the show sort of rushes a conclusion for her but it works.
S1E5. Another good episode. My favorite exchange (paraphrased) from this one: Tony: What'd you guys do for 12 hours? Play name the Pope? Carmella: He gave me Communion. T: I bet he gave you Communion. C: That's verging on sacrilege. T: Oh, I don't mean to verge. So many good quotes, makes me wish I had watched it sooner so I could quote it off hand like ITYSL or other equally quotable shows. I feel like the priest is gonna get it from Tony sooner or later. Episode ended with Carmella finding out that Tony's doctor is a woman, so I wonder if that will affect his relationship with the doctor. He also non-stop lied to Meadow about what he was doing and she's already way too smart to fall for it. I wonder if her knowing is gonna come back to bite Tony in the future. Will she join the family business?? Will she turn against him???? I love this show.
College! One of the most important episodes of television ever made. It's when The Sopranos became, The Sopranos
That’s a great episode, maybe the first fantastic one of the show. Season 1 is great but still setting everything up—it tends to get overshadowed by the quality of everything that comes next. But it’s undeniable that everything else that happens forms its roots in that season. It’s also great you’re not binging. Definitely not a show to be binged. There’s just so much detail in each episode, I think it heightens your experience to take it slow.
I think College is the show's best episode. My favorite is Pine Barrens, but College is the absolute best.
the scene of Tony looking up at the flock of ducks flying right after he strangles that Frankie guy is iconic I will have overused that word in this thread before I'm even done with the first season
The name that pope line is incredible. Also basically all of Junior’s lines are incredible. “The effrontery!”
Junior's quips are the best because of how little he kept up with modern times at all. Even when the show was new you would have to look up most of the references.
I've been having to look some up the words/phrases they say (goomar). My favorite line from the latest two episodes: "What constitutes a fidget?" And it didn't take long for Tony to confess his love to Dr. Melfi and go in for the kiss. I feel like sooner or later he's gonna do something that's really gonna piss her off and make her not want to see him anymore, but who knows. Tony's mom is an absolute savage. And she's very unlikable (so far). AJ let it slip to her that Tony goes to therapy and she nearly blurted it to Uncle Jun. Walls are closing in on that secret. I think about this show a lot throughout the day.
damn, I did not know that James died back in 2013. Almost 10 years ago! He was only 51, RIP. Some fun lines from last night's episode: "I ain't no fuckin' mental midget." "You know who had an arc? Noah." "I wipe my ass with your feelings!" Chris' obsession with wanting to be made/move up are going to get himself or someone else killed. He's already done a lot of dumb shit (latest thing being when he shot that guy's toe off in the bakery). Also what was the name of that N64 game AJ was playing? He was driving like a tractor or something and destroying a bunch of shit. Blaster Corps or something like that?
Lol I didn't know there were only two episodes. We finished the first one last night and in my head I was like ok I need to watch Sopranos as a palate cleanser
One more episode to go. The crash scene with Christopher and pool scene with AJ really bummed me out. :(
