finished this last night. really feels like it's a series rewatch away from being one of my absolute favorites. also, i doubt i'm breaking any ground stating this in 2021, but the ambiguity of the final shot was totally earned for me. can't wait to dig back into this knowing everything i know
I have about 10 episodes left. After watching five and a half seasons of all these characters do despicable things, it only took one scene for Phil to become my most hated character instantly.
just curious what scene? I do love how he became the villain to root against as the series comes to a close but assuming this is your first run-through I won’t spoil anything else.
Just everything with Vito. Not even the hit itself really, as much as the talk he has with V's wife after.
pete schrager was on the bill simmons pod and talked about attending the premiere of new saints of newark and how fantastic it was. can't wait til friday.
That tweet caption is stupid. “Somewhat obscure TV show”? The show has remained relevant and garnered new fans from on-demand HBO subscriptions, won multiple Emmys, and it’s finale was a huge deal in the press after it aired. Fucking Arli$$ is a somewhat obscure HBO show. Also that pull quote… Tony was never seen was a glorified character. He was an anti-hero and the people who watched were smart enough to root for him while acknowledging he’s a despicable person.
Fairly confident it’s ironic, given that it’s an article about how Brooklyn DSA types see themselves in the sopranos
I know it is behind a paywall, but the article is really worth reading. It shows the timelessness the show has that even its successors have struggled to replicate.
It has its flaws, but I walked out of the theater smiling, felt like seeing old friends & family again. Dickie Moltisanti was a pretty good character too. I loved Leslie Odom Jr.
So I wanted to be Tony soprano for Halloween (as my first Halloween as a jersey boy in austin)... but the issue is, outside of bald, fat, gold chain, cigar... idk how to make me look quintessential tony soprano. What would you add or what outfit is the most Tony? One of those bowling button ups, wife beater, tracksuit, golf polo? Its tough .
Finally got around to watching this and it's definitely up there with the best. I had so much anxiety in the last scene in the Diner waiting for something awful to happen. I know there's debate about what the ending is supposed to mean for Tony but I'm going choose to believe he's not dead.
