been on a rewatch with someone who's never watched it. it's been intermittent so it's taken us about 9 months to make it to season 6, which we just finished pt 1 of (up to/including 6.12). a few thoughts, some relevant to recent discussions: - I'm so dumb and inattentive that I only on this viewing did I really up on Phil's never explicitly stated but heavily implied repressed homosexuality. - vito subplot is perfect - love artie as a character, but also as a representation of how tony's relationships are all corrupted and warped in some way by his made status etc. artie is more canny than most about how manipulative and sharklike tony is but that doesn't stop him from pulling some truly dumb shit of his own (with or without tony's involvement). in general the show has a great mix of characters who are generally not that smart (a few are outright morons) but do have flashes of wit or good judgment from time to time that play off each other so well - I almost threw up when someone on here described ralphie as "endearing." what the fuck?? - I don't like to wax nostalgic about the golden age of anything but the show's many sequences (parties, wakes, funerals, weddings) featuring like 50 named characters just milling around and shooting the shit are very much a thing of the past huh
