the last quarter or half of almost all of these tracks pull some sort of incredible soundscape. lots of nice processed sounds. and more realized orchestral moments that dont feel hokey.
gave this a proper headphones listen and idk, a lot of it just isn't holding my attention (joke about the first album title here). lots of cool intros just for songs to get stuck in a holding pattern and not go much of anywhere, I'm pretty unconvinced by how quite a few of them end. wish they hadn't released Bending Hectic as the first single, that climax is so far beyond anything else here imo for right now I'm taking the debut by far, it's not about it having more energy or whatever people are saying, even the soft tracks on that album are a lot more engaging to me than what's here. keep wanting an "I talk to the face in the mirror..." moment here and I'm not finding one
the ending of bending hectic IS great. somebody said it earlier, “we like angular guitars folks”, people on this forum tend to like what they like. i do think preferring that moment over any other moment on the album says more about your personal preference than it does the album. i mean that in the least combative way possible.
yes I would... probably agree that me preferring a thing over another thing does say something about what things I enjoy. I can get behind that bold statement
ive been on a big radiohead kick lately (mainly in rainows) and realized i havent heard either smile albums yet. i like this one a lot on first listen. under our pillows is killer. phenomenal track.
What brought you to that realization? The recent cover Friko did at their album release show in a Chicago or…
It's just a total vibe song that I feel like listening to pretty much every day at some point lol. Stuck in my head constantly, lyrics and guitar tone feel completely unique. One of their best. I love the Live from the Basement video.
Live from the basement of In Rainbows is one of the best things the internet has ever produced. It was so nice & comforting to have during the height of the pandemic.
Hopefully Johnny is on the mend. Also, weird that they have not toured North America since the release of this record.
