bending hectic is one of thom/jonny's collective best tracks

 

just got my new phone in, so I haven't spun this yet, but i definitely will.

 

Not that into my first listen rn but probably just in the wrong mood. On I Quit and this one is quite cool. But “what non RH fans think they sound like” actually is kind of my first impression for a lot of it.

yeah this is spot on unfortunately

except bending hectic, which is somehow unlike anything they've ever done. friend of a friend too, in a different way.

 

We love angular guitars folks

 

A pool of pleasing sounds synthesized into a quite dull album.

 

Kind of interesting how polarizing the reactions to this are. Not extreme, but it's almost like people are listening to two different records

 

I’ve only listened to the first half of this but I gotta say I was kinda bored by it. I’ll probably give it a full listen today and see if my opinion changes.

 

I saw a bunch of “boring” comments before listening and my immediate impression was that it had more energy than I was expecting haha

 

I feel like this has a more consistent vision, which works better for me but that vision may be a little too subdued for some folks

 

That was my exact thoughts when i listened to it the first time yesterday. I guess for those that have not listened yet, go in expecting very boring, lol

 

The back half of this is seriously so good. "Friend of a Friend" into "I Quit." Man.

 

Bending Hectic reminds me of what the Arctic Monekys went for on a few tracks on the Car

 

Over 20 listens of the record and damn it’s really growing on me…

 

Well my second listen is going WAY better lol

 

could not really get in the headspace for this when i listened to the first half the other day. need to try it again

 

It definitely takes a few listens but this is fantastic front to back

 

absolutely fantastic listen, so thankful these guys are still feeling creative (and doing an amazing job at it) so far into their careers.

 

Yea I just really love this record.

 

I am very glad I was apparently just in a mood when I listened to this last week.

 

Finally doing this with proper headphones (and a cocktail) and the last two minutes of Read the Room has me grooooving.

Also there's a sound in the right channel at the VERY beginning that almost gave me a heart attack because I thought someone behind me said something..and I'm home alone.

 

gave this a spin on my way to work tonight and not much grabbed me. I feel like walking by the side of a highway with $3 earbuds was probably not the way to go with this particular record though, I'll try it again at home with headphones and see how I feel

gotta say the start of Under the Pillows made me laugh cos it straight up sounded like a math rock song. before Thom comes in if you told me that was a Minus the Bear song I'd probably believe it lol
