Zero Sum and Don’t Get Me Started are really great. Foreign Spies was just fine to me on first listen.

never really connected with WOE but this might be shaping up to be their best imo

 

Echoing "Zero Sum" being fucking crazy lol. I like this project but my one hang-up has been the sameness of the tracks, which I actually think improved with Wall of Eyes. Love getting something like "Zero Sum" from them because that kind of energy just really stands out against how quiet everything else they do is

Meanwhile, "Don't Get Me Started" has the fucking dungeon synth lmao. Excited for this one.

I haven’t loved most of what they have put out for this exact reason lol. “You Will Never Work In Television Again” is still my favorite thing they have put out and that’s soon to be from two albums ago haha.

 

yeah I really missed that anxious, janky energy from the first album when WOE came out so it's really nice to hear it coming back with this one. manifesting another Thin Thing on this please

(ALBUM REVIEW) The Smile – Cutouts

 

Four tracks into this and it's been pretty passive feeling so far, I might need a few more focused listens for this one

 

first listen was fantastic. very happy with these guys "just" releasing immaculately recorded and performed moody art-rock songs 1-2 times a year for a while

EDIT: might be timing or recency bias but I'm already thinking it's easily their best yet despite being culled from the same sessions as WOE. wonder if they used the extra time to tinker with these songs a bit more. "eyes and mouth" goddamn!!! they're on fire.

 

Yeah I’m really feeling this right now. Some of these guitar parts are so goddamn cool.

at the moment i agree — it really settles into a coherent groove in the second half
