It's perhaps unfair of me -- especially since hearing every single since (I didn't watch the live streams) -- to be like, "Why isn't this a full album of 'You'll Never Work In Television Again'", but this is a very good album just the same. But oh boy was I hoping for an album of straight punches in the face from Thom and Johnny like "You'll Never Work In Television Again" is.
i was unsure after a song or two but it grows so nicely. skinner is an incredible drummer. people keep saying “this could have been a radiohead album” and nah it couldn’t have
Listened to this earlier and really enjoyed it. Getting stoned as hell and putting it on again tonight. Really looking forward to it.
best album that came out today. A Hairdryer really just chilling in the back half of this tracklist like it isn't the grooviest shit of all time
Wow, this is so great. I think at least half of it feels fairly Radioheady, and at the very least while making the comparison, it's pretty instantly the side project album that would most favorably slot into their discography from a quality perspective. Nice blend of some of their other later career sounds - hearing a bit of TKOL, a bit of ANIMA, and even some of Johnny's movie stuff (Under the Paving Stones from Inherent Vice in particular). Open the Floodgates was my favorite on first listen, but just about every song is great.
this and anima are the best thing since in rainbows the suspiria ost is amazing too but totally different category
i think a moon shaped pool is the best radiohead album which alone prob makes ppl think i'm crazy but it's has this incredible ambient and environmental quality of like walking into dark wood that some past individual songs have had but it had never been extended for a whole record. every time i listen to it i'm astonished this record has a similar atmosphere but way more propulsion, like the ground is cracking beneath your feet as it goes. really really in love with it
also these guys have a jazz playlist on spotify that is incredibly well-selected. nothing but heaters
I was going to say, I'm a moon shaped apoologist (sorry), so I would quibble a bit with the best since In Rainbows tag, but I agree in a general sense - there's some really, really high quality Thom Yorke songwriting on this and those. As far AMSP as the best, I wouldn't think that was crazy if I wasn't so lukewarm on the middle. Ful Stop feels a bit half baked to me, and I could probably do without one of the songs in the Identikit->Tinker Tailor run, all of which are pretty good but feel kind of samey to me. First 4 songs and True Love Waits are as good as it gets, though.
People talking about AMSP as if it isn't a great fucking record smh Excited to listen to this again today
Moon Shaped Pool rules and I put it too low when we did rankings in the Radiohead thread recently Very excited to dig into this in a moment
