i'm sure this has been pointed out elsewhere, but it's funny that the song used in the trailer is against all odds, which emily's character sings in the fall guy
not too shabby. the rock is good not great, but it’s definitely something else to see him play anyone who gets any sort of dressing down. or just reined in, in general. some genuine miserablism throughout the film too, more than i anticipated anyway. i’m a bit let down but it’s at least worth an a-list watch. score goes, too
Thought this was just fine. Didn't love it, didn't hate it, somewhere down the middle. Thought Dwayne and Blunt both put in good work, but as a whole this just feels like any other by the numbers biopic.
I kind of agree with the critics that are asking what the point of this was and why was Mark’s story worth telling. Like, the production and cinematography is immaculate and Dwayne is giving it his all. But Emily Blunt’s character couldn’t be a more one-note version of Heidi Gardner’s Weekend Update character. And I feel like Safdie has a weird relationship with writing female characters.
And even in terms of it being a by-the-numbers biopic, I don’t even know if it’s that because the beats of this are so unremarkable
that is honestly not the first time i saw someone reference every boxer’s girlfriend in every boxing movie regarding emily blunt. real bummer she wasn’t written in a way that’s on par with how much she put in that
I'll probably wait for streaming and go see One Battle again then. Looks like it's gonna be on VOD 11/4.
This hits the nail on the head. The whole time I felt like I was waiting for something truly interesting to happen in the story and it just didn’t. Hope Benny’s next solo project is stronger.
Would very much support that. This is not a movie that benefits from seeing it in a theater. It’s pretty flat.
I think Benny did a great job on “The Curse,” but I also think that was my limit on something built around a dysfunctional couple that seems to just be angry and nihilistic underneath it all.
