Those are not necessarily the best episodes but they would be among the best for a lot of other shows.
The lore is season 9 sparks the end because of the skinner-tamzarian episode. Subsequent seasons have several very good even great episodes but it lacks the consistency seen prior to season 9. Personally the last episode I found to be memorable was season 11 the tomacco episode. however the peak of this show (and as far as I’m concerned sitcom and animated tv) is season 8 ep 23 “homers enemy”
I was watching the episode about the house sinking and Marge gets a job at the power plant today. Just one great joke after another, never calling attention too long and always up for a next one. Once a year when I do an element of story/element of plot lesson with students and I will pull in some random sitcom episodes for a daily lesson. I like to use the one about Marge trying to get accepted into the country club and the students seem to respond to it more than The Office episodes I choose.
Tamzarian ep isn’t even that bad. I consider it part of the classic Simpsons. The humor /animation of the show changes in season 10
I’m a 2-9 is golden era truther, but there are some classic feeling episodes in those seasons on the fringes.
That is the episode I remember the most from my childhood. I did not know much about New York at the time so it created a lot of the imagery for me. However, Homer is wrong about Mountain Dew.
I just consider Tamzarian non canonical because it makes no sense with the lore, but it's a cartoon who cares
That episode has so many layers from sociopolitical to family dynamic. “you kids should thank your mother. Now that she’s a better person we can see how awful we truly are” followed by “I love Bart for…Bart” still hits me.
The entire backstory of the family changing over time to fit the real-world date that an episode airs is very funny to me. If they did a flashback episode today, then Homer and Marge being in their mid-30s would mean that they’re younger than the show itself
there was already an episode where they met in the 90s, when the show was already on the air also I think we're already at Bart from the first season being older than Homer and Marge in the current timeline they also had to do it with Family Guy
yeah 10yo Bart in the beginning of the series would have been born in 1979. He’d be in his mid 40s now. Even Lisa would be in her 40s, while Homer and Marge are in their mid-late 30s
The Tamzarian episode is legit great and the world breaking doesn’t bother me one bit. May give it a watch later, actually
I'm going to watch it today as well, after I finish this episode of this dogshit show I'm watching currently
