The first 2 seasons are rough watches. Even as a kid id always groan when they'd play one during weeknights reruns. But they're stepping stones in creating the Springfield universe so I get it
As a kid I liked season one. Mostly because it was the first DVD box set I ever owned so I had it on repeat
Season One of Seinfeld and The Simpsons are both really awkward rough drafts of what they would become.
They used to air shows that weren’t fully formed yet that would eventually find their audiences and grow into something great. Now it seems if you don’t knock it out of the park in season one you are done
it may not be the best episode but my favorite episode is Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment also S1 and 2 are fine Bart Gets an F, Dancin' Homer, Dead Putting Society, Homer vs. Lisa and the 8th Commandment, Oh Brother Where Art Thou, Three Men and a Comic Book ??? all great episodes
Ha, I was watching some S1 the other night and thought it was better than I remembered ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I do have a lot of nostalgia for them still though, I recognise the show doesn't really find itself for another year or two.
My view of the show that I've seen: S1-2: The Rough draft S3-8: One of the best tv shows you will ever see in your entire life, if not the best S9-13: Still pretty good. However, there are lots of bad episodes S14: I think this is where I tapped out when it was airing, as well as this Disney+ rewatch I've been on In nearly two decades since S14 I think I would only tune in to episodes that I heard were really good. Stuff like "Holidays of Future Passed" (which holy shit, aired 10 years ago now) I'm always open to finding other gems in the later years
Season 15 is the best post-classic IMO, some solid episodes in there. 16, 19, & 20 are pretty good, definitely have a couple stinkers in each season though. 21+, mileage varies, each season has a couple solid eps.
This video gave me a good list to check out, 6 of which were recommended by Matt Selman: The Good, the Bad, and the Drugly (20) Treehouse of Horror XX (21) O Brother, Where Bart Thou? (21) The Squirt and the Whale (21) 500 Keys (22) How I Wet Your Mother (23) To Cur With Love (24) The Saga of Carl (24) Labor Pains (25) Covercraft (26) Sky Police (26) Halloween of Horror (27) The Marge-ian Chronicles (27) The Town (28) Looking for Mr. Goodbart (28) The Serfsons (29) Homer Is Where the Art Isn't (29) Krusty the Clown (30) Who-Hoo Dunnit? (30) Thanksgiving of Horror (31)
I'm pretty sure I've seen every episode, but it's possibly I've missed a few in 30-32 because I don't exactly seek them out anymore.
even a lot of the classic episodes I've seen through osmosis, but I think if you watch like 10-20 episodes 50 times that counts as seeing them all
