Ya...being a brown guy myself I definitely got the apu jokes thrown my way (yet never Aladdin wtf), I still loved the Simpsons regardless...I guess since I'm technically not Indian and no one in my family worked at a convenience store I made the separation. And I kind of always say the racism in shows like South Park and family Guy as crossing the line but the Simpsons has their demons too. If I had a kid now though I'd probably tell them that they can laugh at the joke but have to understand it's fucked up.
I loved the Simpsons as a kid/teenager but I stopped watching at some point, mostly because new episodes weren't readily available to me at the time and I was getting tired or reruns. I have recently started watching the newest season and I'm aware that this might be a hot take, but: I still like the Simpsons, new episodes included. They aren't nearly as good as golden era Simpsons, but nothing is. Also, you probably know this, but the Bart Simpson rap song "Dep Deep Trouble" was produced by legendary hip hop producer and arguably the best DJ in the world, DJ Jazzy Jeff, which is funny.
“The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show” gave us a totally outrageous paradigm Lead me to Index of /episodes/ So funny to see how these dorks reacted to classic episodes, plus the "goofs" [9F21] Homer's Barbershop Quartet "Homer is playing an A flat in the "Al Capone song", yet he's hitting a white note on the piano."
[1F02] Homer Goes to College Chris Corcoran: Don't get me wrong. I really liked Cape Feare, and the B#'s was kind of good in a weird way, but the college episode was the worst Simpsons episode I've ever seen. I've loved every other episode, I'm not at all critical when I watch but what happened? Are there new writers? I'm embarrassed. I've gotten so many people into this show, and now I look stupid. Oh my god.
season 6 is on demand right now on Verizonfios... amazing. 100% this has to be the #1 season. - PTA Disbanding - Lisa and Bart Hockey (might be my favorite episode) - Lemon Tree - Maggie Episode - mr burns - barts comet and im not even including the iconic episodes like Stone cutters and clown college and itchy and scratchy land. the only dud of season 6, or the one that is kinda disjointed is the Homer vs Patty/Selma. I watched that last night, with Barts ballet. It was the least focused episode of the season. Fear of flying is a little eh too
i love me some marge but i think, in terms of simpsons greatness, it's just kinda an average story. there's no real good 2nd story going and the jokes aren't AS strong as other episodes. Although the gags of homer trying different bars in the beginning is quite hilarious. something has to be last
Rewatching Fear of Flying, forgot about the "enjoy your deathtrap ladies" and "but its a few seconds before 5" bits, yeah its a classic, highest tier, I'll fight all day about this
The hockey episode is my favorite of season 6. Talk about stuff I quote on a daily basis...or stuff me and my brother would quote at eachother when we were fighting as kids. Plus one of the cutest moments in the entire show with Lisa and bart flashbacks of them having endearing moments... always gets me. The ending to Maggie's episode with showing homers workspace covered in her pictures, blocking out the plaque to spell out "do it for her"... The simpsons are the king at those short but sweet tear jerking moments.
I considered doing a ranking but I'd legit have to rewatch them in order and I just don't have the time or commitment.
i love that no matter how many times i've watched seasons 1-8, i still love this show. my go-to seasons tho are 3-6. prob the most influential era for modern animated series.
