GOON - Hour of Green Evening (July 15, 2022) • forum.chorus.fm Desperately trying to get people into this GOON album as it crawls up my EOTY list. FFO: Beach Fossils' Somersault.
it's become my favorite label of the day! discovered CASTLEBEAT today and now i'm jamming the atmos bloom album.
@Leftandleaving and I have talked about this but I’m in the camp of more hardcore/post hardcore leaning Shoegaze than the emo/indie rock side sound. Soul Blind Narrow Head Nothing Modern Color Superheaven
I've been really loving the hardcore-adjacent/post-hardcore/shoegaze/whatever-the-fuck bands out of OK and TX. Trauma Ray, cursetheknife, Money, Bleed, Kraus, Bedlocked for instance have all been putting out great stuff over the past couple years.
I'm in this weird limbo between the indie-rock/grunge type of shoegaze (Youth era Citizen, Teenage Wrist) and the really relaxing chill type of dream pop (Beach House). Apologies if I'm getting the terms mixed up or whatever, I'm still venturing into the genre, but what are some suggestions of groups that sound like Beach House or (of course) Peripheral Vision-era Turnover?
I enjoy all of those more hardcore/grunge/alt rock leaning bands for sure, but they just scratch a totally different itch for me. When my brain says “give me shoegaze” I’m almost always reaching for the clean/dreamy/borderline new wave stuff or the fuzzy/droning stuff. But I definitely see the lineage and how it all fits on the shoegaze spectrum
I think my issue with those bands is they start to sound the same. There is a marked difference between say Money and Soul Blind. Plus, I gravitate towards hardcore naturally.
For sure, I can see that. I think it does go both ways a bit, like maybe there’s less of a marked different between Soul Blind and Bleed than there is between bands like Glare, Dream Ivory or DIIV. But there are definitely more dime a dozen twinkly or post rock leaning bands than those successfully pulling off the heavier stuff for sure
