Fair enough - I just meant the performance is hollow, vacant, listless, uninspired, stilted, boring, etc.
Again - I think you are reaching. A performance can be desirable in a non sexual way. Charismatic, pleasant, dynamic. I don’t find Nev attractive but I find her a desirable lead.
I mean you used a sexually charged term to describe Melissa. Then you say you want a desirable lead. I’m not reaching. It may not have been your intention, but the logic is there to take it as I did.
“Her performance was stiff/wooden” and “more engaging lead” are what you’re looking for. Just for future reference
Damn, I didn't mean for the discussion to take this turn. If it was indeed intentional, then good on the movie for using the backlash against her in real life to add nuance to Sam's character in the movie. Not only does it add another layer of meta commentary, but it feels like they could take her character in a different direction in future movies. Not that she'll make a heel turn necessarily, but they can take her in a direction that differentiates her from being another Sidney. Like, I don't think Sidney would ever put on the ghostface mask like Sam did at the end of this one. That took me by surprise.
I have no problems with her performance but again, the idea that if you murder a few people one time your daughter who you never met will be incredibly talented at murdering people, instead of like, neutral skill level, is so silly. I really like her and the connection to her sister is a strong emotional core, but the whole mystical/paranormal connection to her dad is being handled in the most absurd ways every time it pops up.
Yeah I wish that whole supernatural thing wasn’t in play but once they led with it in 5 they couldn’t just drop it.
I’m drowsy from my sleep meds, but didn’t Sydney put on the robe and mask at the end of the first one when she attacks Billy from the closet?
It happened way less this time, I hope they do drop it in the next one. The end of this one gave me some symbolic hope that they were done.
Ah shit, did she? If so, I totally forgot about that edit: I just checked, and you're totally right she does. Stabs Billy boy with an umbrella while wearing the outfit. Everyone disregard my point. I have shit memory lol.
Sorry, I'm definitely just being nitpicky at this point, but that's such a weird way of concluding that discussion. To quote the trailer for Renfield, "what that's so weird why would you phrase it like that"
It is odd as someone would say that when defending something. Which isn’t a great look here. But with all the misuse of words and terms, I figured he just misused a phrase again and let it go haha
she just hasn’t blown me away yet like she has a lot of people. that line is so good, so pumped for that movie.
The hospital horror scene from 2022 will go down as a top moment of mine for this decade. Plus, she was great in X too.
I am all about the Core Four and, aside from a couple of very clunky scenes I can’t let go of in 5, have pretty much done a 180 on her, but Barrera is still pretty solidly #4 as far as acting goes for me.
