I feel like him saying that is, in itself, a red herring. We, the moviegoers, were the killers all along.
They could always go the route of going meta on the whole reboot-quel fad that seems to be taking over lately. Lines like "Are you trying to ignore the fact that everything over the last 25 years actually happened." Idk, I'm just spitballing here and I'm definitely not a screenwriter.
“Meta” is definitely in Scream’s DNA, but I also think Craven was able to repeatedly make it work so well because he’s a master of horror. And even then, Scream 4 definitely flirted with the boundaries of meta narrative. As long as the new team treats the characters well and we get some good kills, I think I’m pretty on board for a different direction
When I first saw Scream 3 I hadn’t seen any Kevin Smith movies but I was vaguely familiar with Jay & Silent Bob, maybe from the TV trailers and the MTV spots they did. It wasn’t until years later I got the notion that they cameo’d from the Weinstein connection
The box office failure of scream 4 is the most baffling thing of all time. I legit think whoever was in charge of marketting/releasing this movie deserved to be fired. In an era where franchises are king....reboots are king... scream 4 had ALL of the old cast and a bunch of new big name new celebs. The movie itself was self aware, pretty good, nice ending. I don't get it
Yeah Halloween 2018 did very little for me. There were moments, like that really long shot during trick or treating, but for the most part I don’t totally understand the hype. This bodes very well for Scream though!
remember this is the same dude that said the joker script was terrible, so he can probably be trusted
Drew's known his shit for years. He's a movie nerd OG, one-half of the team that made Ain't It Cool News what it was, before Harry Knowles pissed it away by being a sex pest! Trust in him, y'all. (Which is a shame, as I dug Halloween 2018).
I’m not trusting any guys opinions on the next Halloween film when he admits he didn’t understand the previous film.
I wonder how he’s read it, the Scream scripts are normally super protected prior to release. Anyway, I like the new Halloween!
The guy said in his tweet that he “didn’t get” the film. He didn’t understand it, for whatever reason.
I mean, it doesn’t feel like we can infer “get” literally means “understand” here. It’s not a complex film and the guy is a screenwriter himself. I think he just means he can’t get behind the film or the hype bc he didn’t like it. But maybe I’m giving him too much credit!
