    My current ranking is probably

    Scream '96
    Scream 4
    Scream '22
    Scream 2
    Scream 3

Currently getting my wife to watch the series for the first time to convince her to see the new one in theaters with me again. After my first watch last night I think I like 6 a bit more than 5.

I mostly really liked this. I thought it was really fun to be in New York and made it all feel a little bit fresh. The bodega scene, the ladder between apartments, and the train scene especially all worked really well for me. I was also fine with the third act and the killer reveal.

My only real complaint is it's starting to feel a little too low stakes. I don't want any of the core four or the legacy characters to die, but also someone has to. Killing Gale would've been a little too on the nose for me after Dewey died in 5 (it would've started to feel a little too Star Wars). But I think Kirby would've been a good compromise, and one of the twins should've died. Like again, I'm glad Chad survived, but he shouldn't have lol And I think it wouldn't have been as noticeable if I cared about anyone who actually did die. But we didn't get very much time with Mindy's girlfriend or Quinn to make me care. There were no characters like Wes or Liv that I was invested in who didn't survive.
Anyway that's still a pretty mild complaint, overall I really enjoyed it.

Only thing that’s getting kind of silly now is that we’ve had like 9-10 different people being Ghostface.

If this was happening in our world this would be the biggest violent crime story in the history of our country? The universe in these films, especially the last 3, seems to not really address this.

Sorry it’s my day off and I took an edible.

Idk I think it's clear it's a pretty huge deal in their universe. There's an entire movie franchise about the killings, it's clear the entire country is aware of it since Sam literally got assaulted because of her involvement and because there are conspiracy theories around the killings. Gale has had several book deals, launched a talk show, and clearly become pretty wealthy off of covering it.

I kind of like that this was in NYC and Sydney was away. Don’t get me wrong I love her (and Neve) but I don’t think there would have been a good reason for her to show up.

I think 7 will be 2025 and Neve is back.

I love Sydney's character and I love how much of an impact Neve Campbell has had by portraying her, but like, I don't think we necessarily need her anymore? Not to sound too harsh, and again, can't emphasize enough how critical she was to the initial run obviously, but establishing themselves in 5 and now cementing themselves in 6, this new group is good and I am more than okay with focusing more on them moving forward. We seemingly will have to focus on them since some of them are also invincible haha

One of the biggest laughs was the news reporting brutal murders by Ghostface and then them saying how Ghostface costume sales are up and the reporter excitedly saying how they have their’s. Apparently they’re not taking it too serious.

If I’m recalling correctly, Jason + Greg had worshipped Richie and what he was doing with his “movie”, and Bailey tracked them down through the internet and research they were doing on him. Something along those lines. I really enjoyed the concept that Bailey had no ties or care about the movies, and he was 100% motivated by the love of his kid who was obsessed with them and who he helped collect evidence for to build that shrine, rather it just be some random who miraculously got it all on their own.
The family ties mirroring S2 and the college setting I loved. The FT13 Easter egg was fun and well done in the Scream-esque style, and the violence/chase scenes felt way more fluid and high stakes. I do think my biggest gripe overall is Chad surviving.

This is exactly what I meant. Look at the pushback the Dahmer series received from victims surviving families.

I’d love to see the series explore that aspect, dive into the survivors being angry at their trauma being turned into a profit.

The next one should explore the company manufacturing the Ghost Face mask and costumes and just go full Season of the Witch :crylaugh:

We’re technically up to 13 if you count Jason, which I would since had got a kill.

Also, I can’t believe I died in the movie.

Isn’t that exactly what keeps getting Gayle punched in the face? It’s never been the most prominent aspect of the storytelling but it’s always been there. Gayle is the double-edged sword as the primary cause of the glorification of Ghostface by writing the books, but also is a victim in the grand scheme of the murders as well as a primary protagonist against them. She feels bad about the people who get hurt close to her, but as an attention-obsessed journalist, she continues to use it for her career she can’t let go of which was prominent in 4 and 6. Sidney and Sam both are living trying to hide from the attention they get due to her books in their stories.

As for the movie stating a rise in sales for Ghostface costumes after the murders, this last October’s Halloween costume house party I was at a guy actually showed up in full Dahmer gear. Power drill attached to his waist and everything. Not a single person found it funny or voted for him, but there are unfortunately those types out there.

I feel like this may be closest we get to having the killers be a cult. I’m not sure how they could do it, but I would still like that somehow.

Idk if anyone here ever watched the first two seasons of The Following (written by Williamson iirc) and the crossover influence felt heavy in some aspects regarding the cult theme. Most specifically when Jason described killing and the way the family functioned in the climax.
